Hi Spacemonkey

I saw it 2 nights ago and was blown away at how amazing the human spirit is.

You wouldn't catch me climbing up mountains though. No WAY!!! Gives me the FEAR!

spacemonkey · 26/04/2004 17:56

the bit about Boney M made me cry with laughter!

I CAN'T DIE TO BONEY M!!!

Is it a climbing movie?

spacemonkey · 26/04/2004 18:14

Yes papillon - it's based on the book by Joe Simpson about their ascent of a mountain in Peru in the 80s. Incredible, incredible story. Very moving.

Oh I the movie about the football team? I think I have seen that advertised. It would be very moving in that case. I would have to take a box of tissues!

spacemonkey · 26/04/2004 18:38

No, that's Alive - the story of the football team whose plane crashed in the Andes and the survivors had to resort to eating the dead bodies in order to stay alive.

Touching the Void is about two young British mountaineers who attempted a previously unclimbed mountain in Peru - until things started to go wrong ...

Realy? I have tried to read the book millions of times and cant get on wiht it

Knwo the story though
the book of alive is good - is the movie good too?

spacemonkey · 26/04/2004 19:12

I've never read the book, but the film is incredible. It's a documentary, with reconstructed bits, not a dramatized version.

Yes, the Boney M bit was very funny but the thing which got me the most was when he was hopping over the rocks with his broken leg. It makes me wince to think of it now. It seemed to go forever.

spacemonkey · 26/04/2004 21:12

I found it all very moving. I think the bit when he was stuck in the crevasse was the bit that got to me the most, but certainly his determination in hopping over those rocks was incredible!

i saw it the other night too - totally agree. I read the book a couple of years ago and that I think is even better ! Joe Simpson now does inspirational talks and I can see why

boingyzebra · 27/04/2004 19:28

If you've read the book, you should find one of the interviews where Joe Simpson talks about his reaction upon seeing the movie. It really freaked the poor chap out. Very moving.

spacemonkey · 27/04/2004 19:29

i must get the book

i enjoyed watching the extra footage on the DVD about what happened afterwards
