Your dream cast for the film of "The Goldfinch"?

Apparently this has been picked up by Warner Bros, and I really hope they move on it soon...

The only difficulty I can see with filming it is the time slip, in that it is a coming-of-age story, and they'd probably need two castings for many of the characters.

I certainly picture certain actors in the roles, but if I really think about it, I'm picturing them at their peak, and many of the actors I had in my mind's eye (like Sean Penn for Larry, Theo's dad) are probably too old now.

I definitely see Cate Blanchett as Mrs Barbour, and Rachel Weiss as Theo's mother, Audrey. Bill Nighy or even Liam Neeson could play Hobie. Boris is a plum part, and I think Ezra Miller or Adam Driver would be great in the adult role. I see Cameron Diaz stealing the show as Xandra. Would Christian Bale work as Larry, the one-time actor turned hasbeen gambler?

I find Theo the hardest to cast; there are plenty of actors I visualise, but most of them are distinctly past it now in terms of age. Maybe an unknown is required?

Anyway, I'd love to hear your thoughts, silly though the whole question is, but hey, if we can speculate on royal baby names, then why not this?

I just want it in the book and in my head, in its state of utter perfection.

Needs to be stellar production and acting team to do it any justice at all!

I think it should translate quite easily, don't you?

I have such clear images of what they all look like.... You are closest with Rachel Weiss as Theo's mother. Not sure Liam Neeson is old enough for Hobie, although I would agree if they got Thro & Boris right Grin Christian Bale could be Larry, but he would have to be skinny & not super buff.

Whoever casts this has to love the book

Like Bill Nighy for Hobie. But then, I like Bill Nighy Smile

Gumnast2014 · 24/02/2015 04:51

Oh I posted about this the other day

My thoughts were Jim broad bent for hobbie

Daniel Radcliffe for theo

Boris so hard I think an unknown would do well and I really can't think of someone who would do him justice

Billy Bob thorton for Larry
Yay to cate

Any idea when released

Who for Pippa? What about Eddie Redmayne for Theo?

Saturn123 · 24/02/2015 17:05

theo would need to be suitably floaty I think. Quite hard to cast!
