Yes it is violent and rather disturbing. But certainly worth seeing.

Thomcat · 08/09/2006 20:47

I can't actually watch it, find it all a bit too disturbing and never get through the whole film in one go.

It is disturbing, it also looks very dated. I have seen it twice I think. I am in no rush to see it again but it is a film that is worth watching purely because of its cult status.

ilovecaboose · 08/09/2006 21:01

I think its worth seeing. Its probably a film you won't watch more than once. It is violent and disturbing, but not as much as say 'Leon' or other more modern films. Its very interesting and has influenced a lot of other films since so worth seeing.

merrily · 08/09/2006 21:05

It is a very disturbing film, including an extremely nasty rape scene. I have only seen it once and don't think I could watch it again.

But I disagree with lucy5 that it is only worth watching for its cult status - it is very stylish and beautifully filmed as you would expect from Stanley Kubrick. It is worth watching.

The book is even better - if you read it first it will give you an idea of what to expect.

Give it a try seastra. As merrily says, Kubrick really was a visual genius of cinema - his films are invariably beautiful and usually pretty disturbing
If you fancy gentler Kubrick I see Barry Lyndon is on Channel 4 or possibly BBC2 tomorrow afternoon. Rather less shocking...

merrily · 08/09/2006 21:18

ahh Barry Lyndon - I might give that another viewing. Beautiful film. The night scenes filmed by candlelight are just gorgeous. Kubrick was a genius! (though the less said about Eyes Wide Shut the better...)

nooka · 08/09/2006 21:54

I think it is one of the best films I have ever seen. Disturbing and also funny, beautifully filmed, great soundtrack, and dated only in a very sci-fi sort of way (it is after all a science fiction film). Barry Lyndon is fantastic too. Very different, but also beautiful, funny and disturbing (not in a violent way, but stays in your mind). Leonard Rossiter in particular is fantastically funny in it. Kubrick is one of my all time favourite directors (I even like Eyes Wide Shut)

Worth seeing once, I think. I certainly don't want to see it again, I found it extremely upsetting and disturbing. It's an interesting piece of work though.

TambaTheDragonSlayer · 09/09/2006 12:13

I watched it last night

Not sure what I made of it really

Fell asleep and missed the end though!
