Took dd & ds, we enjoyed it but you can't beat Christopher Reeve in the original.
Let us know what you think?

My ds wants to see it but is only 4 - is it really not suitable?

schneebly · 24/07/2006 20:14

I thought the new guy was quite a lot like Christopher Reeve especially as Clark Kent! I enjoyed it more than I expected to and thought it was really well done - great effects but it was emotional too. Agree that nothing beats the original though!

Some of it is quite 'dark' Northerner - maybe you could watch it fisrt and see what you think - you know your DS better than anyone.

orangegiraffe · 24/07/2006 20:23

tbh, yeh I would say it was ok, but towards the last half hour some mild violence.

Superman gets beaten up quite badly, not very nice to watch.
Saw the film last night. 3 hours in an air conditioned room - bliss.Thought the film was ok rather than good.
some good action scences but some boring parts as well.

I saw Superman Returns last night and wouldn't dream of letting my son (4 years) watch it, its quite violent. When it comes out of DVD I'll let him watch selected scenes but I know he'd be terrified if he saw all of it.

I enjoyed it though

Ooh, saw Superman Returns (with my 4 yr old!!) today and it was fabby. Said 4 yr old was a little upset at the beating up scene - said 'I'm not crying but my eyes are weak' A real great feel good film imo

My dd wants to see it, her friends ahve seen it who are 4 and 6 and they loved it. Have not made up my mind yet though

nutcracker · 11/08/2006 20:21

It's not any worse than Spiderman is it ??

twinsetandpearls · 11/08/2006 20:30

I donlt think so and dd has seen spiderman, but not in a cinema where everthing is larger, darker and scarier.

WideWebWitch · 11/08/2006 20:36

I'm going with ds tomorrow, will let you know. Dh really liked it, he went earlier in the week (alone!)

southeastastra · 11/08/2006 20:38

this is great!

WideWebWitch · 12/08/2006 20:48

I loved it, I thought it was really well done, great special effects, fantastic performance from Kevin Spacey, good plot (yer basic good vs evil, obv), gripping all the way through, well worth it. I took ds, who is nearly 9, who really liked it too and was gripped. There is one violent bit which might scare younger ones and

Because it turns out that Lois Lane's son is Superman's son too (there's a veiled reference earlier in the film with her partner saying "oh, My Night With Superman?" and Lois saying something like "It was A HEADLINE fgs!") we had some interesting conversations on the way back in the car about, er, knowing who the father of a baby is

It was ok, he knows the facts of life but I was careful with my wording although tempted to say Lois Lane is a bit of a slapper
