I particularly liked Pretty in Pink.
But also Breakfast Club.
And other films of the same mould, not necessarily all with Molly Ringwald in them.
Whatever happened to her anyway?

i loved andrew mccarthy too, when i see him now i think how on earth argh! the song pretty in pink is about someone being pretty naked

southeastastra · 15/06/2006 19:15

that film 'class' i loved him in that.

puff · 15/06/2006 19:21

I saw Molly Ringwald on stage in New York a couple of years ago, she played Sally Bowles in Cabaret.

It was brill.

ChaCha · 17/06/2006 18:34

Guess I found this thread a couple of days too late. Major nostalgia going on here.

Loved Pretty In Pink, it was on the other night, watched it much to DH's amusement. Favourite part with Ducky in record shop - classic! Dress still makes me cringe!

Desperately Seeking Susan - Also LOVED that film and St.Elmos fire, loved Demi Moore in that film and the then gorgeous Rob Lowe (swoon).

Can't remember the name of the John Cusack film where he goes out with a girl but the father dissaproves of him and ends up in prison...

Oh the 80's :o
(Can I mention The Labyrinth/The dark crystal)

Dior · 17/06/2006 18:38

ChaCha, was it 'Say Anything'?

littlerach · 17/06/2006 18:46

Custy was it Some Kind of Wonderful?

Imagine my delight when ayt DD1's fete and I found The Breakfast Club, Ferris Bueller and Some Kind iof Wonderful, all 3 for 50p. Well, I had to!

My mate and I used to sit and watch these for housr when ew were yoinger. And St Elmo and PIP.

Remember Mannequin?

Dior · 17/06/2006 18:48

Mannequin was fab...but then Andrew McCarthy was a favourite of mine. Forget Rob Lowe...

peachygirl · 17/06/2006 18:56

Another member of the Andrew Mcarthy fan club here. He was quite recently in Kingdom Hospital a US remake of Lar Von Triers 'the kingdom' the US version was adapted by Steven King, it a bit weird but good if you like that sort of thing (supernatural goings on etc)
I love Ferris Bueller and The Breakfast club but the best has to be Footloose!!

has anyone seen Catholic boys? I remember that being good- bit more serious than some of the others

littlerach · 17/06/2006 18:59

Don't remember tjhat one.

Remember The outsiders. And Footloose, we went to visit my friend's sister at Bham Uni and played the soundtrack to tat the whole way theer.

tribpot · 17/06/2006 19:02

Ahhh, Say Anything, I have that one on DVD as well! Where John Cusack stands on the roof of a car with a boom box playing "In Your Eyes" - fabulous.

Catholic Boys - featuring both Andrew McCarthy and Patrick Dempsey, also to be found in the classic "Can't Buy Me Love", where he is the High School geek who pays the captain of the cheerleaders to go out with him and make him popular.

lunarx · 18/06/2006 16:25

We're not old until there is a remake of Pretty in Pink Grin (An actual remake, not just any other Cinderella story).

TinyGang · 18/06/2006 19:07

My favs were Some Kind of Wonderful and Rumblefish - didn't like the Outsiders as much as Rumblefish - I think I was disappointed because I loved the book it was based on.

BTW C Thomas Howell was in the last series of 24 -didn't recognise him - I had to look up which character he played when I saw his name on the credits.

helsi · 19/06/2006 17:13

the offical members of the Brat Pack or those classed as part of it at thetime were:

Matthew Broderick
Tom Cruise
Robert Downey Jnr
Emilio Estevez
Anthony Michael Hall
Rob Lowe
Ralph Macchio
Andrew McCarthy
Demi Moore
Molly Ringwald
Judd Nelson
Ally Sheedy
Charlie Sheen
Mare Winningham

lahdeedah · 19/06/2006 17:18

Oh I love this thread.......

Some Kind Of Wonderful is one of my absolute favourite films... Marslady - "you look good wearing my future" what a fantastic line. Eric Stoltz is just gorgeous. The last good thing he did was The House of Mirth - think I saw him recently in some dodgy sci-fi TV movie thing, not good.

Also Pretty In Pink is fabulous - though it definitely should have been Ducky - and Ferris Bueller, and The Sure Thing, and Say Anything just makes me melt... I remember when I first saw that at about age 14, I sought out a copy of "In Your Eyes" and played it over and over and over again... John Cusack is my ideal man. Watched High Fidelity again recently - love him in that. He hasn't done much good recently though, I think?

anyway, I'll shut up now....... Grin

peachygirl · 19/06/2006 17:20

I love John Cusak in Crosse point blank although I admit a different era of films

peachygirl · 19/06/2006 17:20

Grosse point blank!

lahdeedah · 19/06/2006 17:24

Grosse Point Blank is another good one. Always great soundtracks to his films.

arfy · 19/06/2006 17:25

ooooh I think I've expounded at length here before on the wonder that is John Cusack

and that my DH looks like him Grin

LOVE Grosse Pointe Blank
