Not seen a movie thread about this. So here goes?

Saw it last night, and was pretty disappointed. Never felt shaken or stirred. The pacing was deadfully uneven. And Dench was on screen waaay to much. ( Thank the lord she's out of it).

I could see the tension between old/new Bond with nice touches, but having the Aston /Martin only out for one trip seemed a bit mean. Quite liked the digger on back of a train scenario, and Ms Moneypenny was v cutely introduced. And Albert Finney was hardly recognisable!

It's going to be really hard to get back up to the standard of Casino Royale, imo.

anyone else?

I can live with the sexism in bond as it is expected an obvious.

The shower scene just seems to be her payment to her for rescuing her. It just seemed like yet another man exploiting her

Other than that I enjoyed it! Although I didn't think he had slept with money penny.

I liked the baddie - he was suitably unhinged!

nkf · 07/11/2012 19:22

With Bond movies, I usually fall asleep during the pre-credits but I stayed awake for most of Skyfall. I quite liked the old/new stuff and thought the baddie was a goodie. Thumbs up from me. I must have dozed through the shower scene because I don't remember it.

msrisotto · 07/11/2012 19:28

I didn't like the shower scene either, nor the scene where she was shot.

SauvignonBlanche · 07/11/2012 19:34

I saw it last night and really enjoyed it, I was gripping DH's arm.
Didn't like the shower scene but overall thought it was good.
I loved "Welcome to Scotland". Grin

Methe · 07/11/2012 19:36

I loved it! It was a proper bond film unlike the last 2 Craig bongs which have been rubbish!

CelstialNavigation · 07/11/2012 19:42

I liked when he tried to assure the caretaker that he had everything in hand and didn't need him and got called a "jumped-up wee shit" for his pains Grin.

I found it very good.

FloralWellies · 08/11/2012 23:19

DP and I have just come back from seeing it and thought it was brilliant.
It was like a proper film with a nod to all of the Bond touches, instead of being one cliche after another.

I loved the camp baddie, his opening scene with Bond was genius and he out acted even Daniel Craig. He even died in a funny way; tutting with annoyance!

Also loved the night shots of shanghai and the burning backgrounds in the scotland scene were stunning. Sam Mendes is an amazing director

Erebus · 09/11/2012 14:34

Floral- via DS I was looking at a 'making of Skyfall' site on youtube (I think) where they showed the banks and banks of dazzling yellow tinged lights used to illuminate the final scenes, pretending to be the light from the burning building behind them and out of shot.

Clever.

I liked the Raoul Silva role, too- what I did like was the fact he had a damn good reason to loath M for her 'betrayal' of him, it made his anger more 'real' and less 'cartoon baddie'- and didn't he have the sexiest scene, plucking open Bond's shirt? Grin No misted shower screens there!

Piffpaffpoff · 09/11/2012 14:41

'welcome to Scotland' got a big laugh when I saw it Sauvignon - I'm in Scotland Grin.

FloralWellies · 09/11/2012 14:56

Erebus I will look up the making of skyfall on youtube.
Yes Raoul "fondling" Bond was very sexy! Javier Bardem was really superb, I loved his love hate relationship with M (Or Emma!!)

Interesting how the first 3 Daniel Craig bond movies seem to have set the scene explaining Bond's past and how he became 007. I wonder how Bond will be interpreted for the next film...

wintera · 10/11/2012 07:47

Slippery - when did he shag Moneypenny? I thought she just give him a shave!

Erebus · 10/11/2012 16:07

I maybe wrongly 'assumed' the save morphed into a shag, I must say! Grin . Some have said the immediate next scene's fireworks was 'code'....

zamantha · 11/11/2012 09:12

My DD of 13 said: "It's really good isn't it!" First time for her. We went with the family - not often can I get my teenagers to go with me.

Enjoyed it - setting throughout was fab - Shanghai Such a world first city now, all that glass and elevator stuff - great cinematography, Chinese market and Scotland - enjoyed the film for views alone.

Liked the car chase. Was interested to hear Craig did a lot of on top of the train stuff himself.

Was really surprised M died - found it quite thrilling and enjoyed her performance. Agree 2012 needs a a slightly more pyschologically clued up Bond character and it worked for me.

Cos I'm a softie, did not like girlfriend being shot with the whisky!

Did think sexy scenes were kept to minimum which I think is good.

boogiewoogie · 11/11/2012 21:29

I don't think he did it with Moneypenny. They are meant to have a flirty "platonic" relationship in the office and whilst I think Moneypenny is attracted to Bond, I think she knows her place.

PfftTheMagicDraco · 11/11/2012 22:00

There was no scene of him and Moneypenny having sex, so I think we must assume they didn't.

I thought the Shanghai fight scene was beautiful, with the lights.

LittleAbruzzenBear · 24/02/2013 07:54

So, we watched this last night. I liked it, but it's not as good as Casino Royale IMO. However, I really liked Naomi Harris as Moneypenny, Ben Whishaw as the new Q and so excited to see Ralph Fiennes is the new M. I did love the cinematography, Shanghai and Scotland looked fab. Javier Bardem was a good villain. As others have said, I didn't like the shower scene or where the poor girl was shot, I was Sad, thought she was the Bond girl too. I liked it, but didn't love it.

MarshaBrady · 24/02/2013 07:59

I liked it.

Except Dench managed to irritate, too stroppy with Bond and I felt sorry for the Javier character. So grim in parts.

Shower scene was too incongruous. She was good though in part before.

littlewhitebag · 24/02/2013 19:23

I watched it for the first time last night. I wasn't sure what to expect. DH is a big Bond fan and had seen it with DD1. I usually find Bond films a bit crass but i loved this one. I was just so much more modern and unexpected. I adored the new Q as a nerdy geek and am looking forward to seeing more of the new M. I think my DH looks a bit like Daniel Craig so i am a happy woman!!

pigsinmud · 27/02/2013 19:20

I've just watched it too. I prefer Casino Royale. I think this is partly due to me having listened to hundreds of people tell me Skyfall is the best Bond film ever over the past few months. Dh thought it was better than CR, but he saw it with our boys when it first came out.

Dh also thought Moneypenny had slept with Bond - I didn't. Loved the new Q!

pinkpaws · 01/03/2013 19:25

Hi i liked it but yea know what you mean i felt it was abit slow in places. But i did watch it with the family on our family pizza nite so do feel i could do with having peace to watch it again. I did love the new Q however very clever
