I watched this tonight, on DVD. I am a huge fan of the book, and was expecting to hate it. I thought Matthew McFaddyn was lovely as Darcy, and even Keira excelled herself. I don't think that she is a great actress, but I liked her as Lizzie (Certainly more than Jennifer Ehle!)

They changed bits, and left bits out (of course, as the book is too long to include everything in 2 hours), but it kept the essence of Austen's love story. Hated the US alternative ending though...scmaltzy and insulting to the viewers.

Ooh I hated bits of it. All that Keira 'I'll blow away in a light breeze' Knightley either sitting around looking in a mirror or giggling ridiculously. I was disappointed with the 'ooh Lydia's run away...ooh she's back' bit too. No tension, lack of attention to detail too (why did Keira/Lizzie never wear a bonnet when out in public?).

Thought Lydia and Kitty lacked characterisation, Keira Knightley didn't manage fierce independence, just thought she was girly and Matthew McFaddyn came across as sulky.

I will admit that I did like the relationship between Mr and Mrs Bennett and the characterisation of Mr Collins was interesting- played more to the socially inept side of him rather than the odious as per the BBC adaptation.

And Wickham? Blink and you'd miss him...

Yes...but they only had a short time. At least most of the actors were like the book, unlike Hugh 'Edward Ferrers' (not) Grant.

Edward Ferrers my ar$e! Do agree with you on that one. Thought Willoughby was excellent though.
