Got it on our HD hooked up to the TV. How violent/gory is it? I like horror films but this one has the reputation of being really bad.

I'm a massive wimp, had nightmares when I saw psycho but I was fine with hostel. It has some grim moments but none of the psychological aspect to make it scarey.

summerintherosegarden · 13/06/2012 22:28

About SAW level.

Trills · 13/06/2012 22:28

Are you being unreasonable?

To watch a film that is commercially available?

No.

You are not being unreasonable to watch a film that it is legal to watch and you have acquired legal.

Does that help?

QOD · 13/06/2012 22:28

It's horrible! Made me wonder how it's probably true to life somewhere too

ShowOfHands · 13/06/2012 22:29

It's mindless bollocks. It's not worth it.

ItWasABoojum · 13/06/2012 22:30

It's really, really unpleasant; one of the worst I've seen.

That said, I also think it's a very interesting and well-made film, not just mindless schlock, so if you can get past the violence it really is worth seeing.

Binkybix · 13/06/2012 22:30

I found this really horrid, and my tolerance level is about medium. It's pretty gory.

thenightsky · 13/06/2012 22:31

I'm a massive horror fan, massive, but Hostel was one film that I actually nearly brought my lunch up whilst watching.

I wish I could un-watch it.

It was one sick fucker who thought up that story Sad

Theglassishalffull · 13/06/2012 22:37

It's worse than saw in m opinion...more gore probably the sickest film Ive seen.

geegee888 · 13/06/2012 22:45

Really enjoyed it. I found the premise of it just realistic enough to make it not totally mindless horror. Its belieavable...

thenightsky · 13/06/2012 22:51

I think its because it so believable (ignoring the shite acting) that makes it so revolting.

Duckypoohs · 13/06/2012 23:57

I quite liked it, I even liked the sequel.

Archip17 · 14/06/2012 00:01

What thenightsky said!

I am also a huge horror fan but this is different and not in good way! Found it really nasty to watch.

Empusa · 14/06/2012 00:13

It's dull dull dull. It's aimed very much at young teenage boys who still think nudity is naughty/shocking.

slowestwildebeast · 14/06/2012 00:13

lots of tits. Very dull. Some horrible scenes of violence. No interesting bits.
I watched it the 1st time and skipped the entire start it was so dull.

Wolf creek is nasty. :)

sawseesaw · 14/06/2012 00:31

Noooo! I saw 10 mins and am still really disturbed and have regular flashbacks. Horrible horrible horrible!

KatMumsnet · 14/06/2012 13:26

Hi, we've moved this into Movie Reviews. Thanks.

HappyJoyful · 14/06/2012 13:31

My husband is from Slovakia and the Slovaks resent and loath this film for it's horrendous portrayal of their country. It caused uproar and a lot of bad taste as it was actually filmed in The Czech Republic too..
I've never watched it and never will - apparently a friend said it was some sort of specific genre too I can't recall the name but think there are gross acts of sexual violence aswell as others appear to have commented..
Grim and really wouldn't bother.

AWomanCalledHorse · 14/06/2012 13:40

HappyJoyful, is the genre term you're on about exploitation or 'Grindhouse'?

I thought Hostel was an ok film (better than Cabin Fever or the Hostel sequels), I wouldn't call it a horror film, I like most of the 'plotation' films...so I have a very very cack idea of what a decent film is!

What did you think of the film OP?
