Bridesmaids--there is actual com in this rom

I never normally watch romcoms because I find them so depressingly unfunny. And they're all the same: the lead just can't get a man, which is puzzling given that she looks like Katherine Heigl/Jennifer Lopez/Kate Hudson. OK, the lead in this just can't get a man either, but this film made me laugh. The reviews I've read gush about the realism of the female characters' conversations with each other Hmm but imho the standout about this film is that it is aimed at women and actually funny.

I went to see this last night and it left me cold although my friends loved it.

I really couldn't see how it was such a great progression from previous chick flicks and some of the gross out bits I just found humiliating and unnecessary, and I thought the Hangover was genuinely funny this just felt like a girlie remake with no Vegas. I also thought the lead was scarily narcisstic (sp?) and was disappointed that the Chris O' Dowd character ended up with such an eejit.

I did like some of the cameos and thought it was a brave move that the lady playing the bride actually looked like a real person. But overall it did not feel like much of a departure from other films I have seen.

It sounds hideous. I've seen the promotional photo with the bridesmaids wearing pink dresses and standing in false poses. Enough to put me off.

I agree about the gross-out bits-- it's almost like they're in there to try to lure some guys into watching the film. I wasn't trying to imply that it constituted a great revolution from other chick-flicks; the plot is pretty fluffy and formulaic, just that I never find them very funny and this one I did.

I went to see this today with DH. We roared.

Interestingly, in our late 50s, we were younger than the rest of the audience, entirely female, by at least 10 years.

They roared, too.

i went with sisters and SIL and we all loved it. not the best film i've ever seen by a long shot (and slightly over-long) but funny without being horrendously mean.

can't remember the last time i was at a film and the audience spontaneously clapped in the middle of a film!!

I went last night and loved it!

I thought it was going to be one of those "Seen All The Best Bits In The Trailers" ones but it was bloody hilarious pretty much all the way through. I haven't laughed so much for ages and I'm not really much of a LOL-er as a rule Grin

I thought some of it was hysterical and some of it completely left me cold. To me, it felt like a great, funny movie written by a woman that then got a couple of over the top, gross-out scenes added in to make it more appealing to men, or something.

I did think most of it was very good, and funny, but I'm not sure it was the great leap forward for female comedy that some people seem to be claiming it is.

Did quite like it, apart from the really annoying (seemingly obligatory?) bit where the incredibly skinny and pretty lead complains about her rival being skinny. Yawn...

Even Tina Fey does this in 30Rock. Fecks me right off.

Just been to see Bridesmaids - I can't stand Sex In The City/Friends/Jennifer Aniston and was expecting it to be lame - friend and I guffawed all the way through. Not especially clever or thought provoking, but on a Sunday night with massacres and God knows what else going on in the world, it was great to have a good belly laugh for a couple of hours. Very funny - I'd recommend.

Seeing as this has been out for a while, I think it's a real 'word of mouth' film - our local cinema was full.
I enjoyed it but thought it was patchy, feeling that the central character's overwhelming narcissism was overplayed and we could have done with more from the other characters. Also, in the scene where she is having a row with the teenage client who wants a 'best friend' necklace, and ends up calling her a c**t, the camera pulls back, I could swear that David Mitchell is playing the part of the shocked customer.

It was no where near as funny as the hangover. Just ok and felt about an hour too long. It was a more make you smile kind of film although from the people constantly pissing themselves laughing in the cinema I'm sure most people will disagree.

There were parts of this film that made me absolutely weep with laughter - especially the bit on the plane. Yes, the lead character was flawed, but wasn't that kind of the point?

saw this last night (havent seen the hangover) with 6 friends, all 40+ and we wept with laughter. I have to admit to covering my eyes at some of the stuff in the bridal shop but i was laughing at the same time.
