I'm planning on watching some pre 1970 films and need advice. I've hired High Society & It Happened One Night and I've seen It's a Beautiful Life. What 'Must Sees' do you suggest?

Sabrina
Pillow Talk
Houseboat
Some like it hot
African Queen

High Society is one of my favourites. Why not try Seven Brides for Seven Brothers?

Harvey

Mrs Minevere

The Dambusters

Oh, Harvey - I LOVE that film.
North by Northwest
Brighton Rock (1940s version, obviously, not new one)
The Titfield Thunderbolt, St Trinians and any Ealing comedy
Brief Encounter
Wonderful Life
And, def not a classic, but there's a wonderfully bad B movie called the Trollenberg Terror which is just sooo worth a watch.

Sorry for the hijack but am trying to find a film which my gran loved.

Its about a RAF pilot who is shot down and he has to prove to god (or someone) why he shouldn't die.I remember a huge staircase in one scene.

Any ideas?

I thought it was heaven can wait but that just came up wioth a different film from 1978 and the one I want is older.

maybe "A Matter of Life and Death" with David Niven ??
Not sure if tha's the exact title.

TheSydenhamSet · 23/02/2011 23:09

genevieve!

a wonderful, old time british comedy with the to-die-for kay kendall.

Try a bit of Bette Davis: All About Eve, Whatever Happened to Baby Jane, Now Voyager etc. It's old fashioned romance, slow and intense, and her acting is just amazing.

babyicebean · 25/02/2011 21:50

Thats the film - now i just need to buy it.

babyicebean · 25/02/2011 21:50
