Now - before I start, my kids like a bit of a scare and a thrill from a film - but this was really scary. I was shocked it was a 12A - it should have been a 12 at the very least... Just a warning if you are thinking of seeing it. We had to leave half way through as my DS (aged 10) was terrified.

really? My 10 year old laughed through it - especially the slap stick bit with clown? I thought they paced it very well and was not too scary but instead gave you a lot of build up to "potentially scary bit".. Guess we are all different... Grin

My friend took her 11yr old to see it. She (the 11yr old) said it was hilarious.

So sounds like the 12A rating is actually right. Depends on the child.

I want to go and see it, our dd's are all too young so will have to go on our own.

Well - depends if you think a girl dripping with blood is slapstick I suppose. I thought it was great, and would loved to have stayed, but it certainly wasn't hilarious Hmm

Well, I haven't seen it and have no desire to see it so can't comment.

But I think she meant hilariously bad as opposed to funny.

annaje I took DS2 aged 12 and his friend aged 11 and we also had to leave.
Half an hour in I asked the boys if they thought it was a bit too scary and they both bravely said no.
It just got worse and I gave them a get out by saying I wondered whether they were enjoying the film or would they like to do something else? They shot out like frightened rabbits.
This should never be a 12A it was the scariest thing I've seen in years. There were no redeeming features at all and definately no humour.
Dead children weeping blood?
It wasn't graphic violence it was the creepy fear of the unknown, like the best (or worst if you like) of Dr Who.

dead children weeping blood--omg sounds gross

Merrylegs · 05/10/2010 14:12

The first bit (dead child moving jerkily upstairs/being pulled into hole/eye on video camera were real horror film moments and DS (13) said they were freaky. But the other bit with the mad clown and particularly fighting the ogre dad were a bit Harry Potter really.

(Unless of course you have Coulrophobia. In which case you would be bricking it.)

It wasn't a clown, although the characters called it a clown, in a was a creepy old fashioned Mr Punch.
