Teenage boy acquitted of murder and manslaughter after killing girl

Is anyone else baffled by the acquittal of a teenage boy who stabbed and killed nine year old Aria Thorpe. I can vaguely understand the acquittal for murder but how on earth has he been acquitted for manslaughter? He got a knife from the kitchen and stabbed her in the cheat while she was eating her dinner for goodness’ sake! Then he left her bleeding to death and hid on a train. It’s another example of the lives of girls just not mattering.

Of course it doesn't. A jury verdict does not constitute any sort of binding precedent.

I’m not saying it sets a binding precedent but surely there’s the possibility of a precedent being set? If one person has successfully argued it what’s to stop someone else trying the same argument? 🤷🏻‍♀️. Obviously they may not be successful

Was there not a public gallery in this case?

The judge imposes section 45 reporting restrictions. So it can't be published and that includes forums.

People who watch the trial can hear it.

I presume the trial was public, but I don't know for sure. Attending a trial, obviously isn't "publishing".

Oh it’ll probably be her fault again.. poor boy imagine his upset at someone doing this to him again

All I keep thinking about is Arias siblings including at least one sister living in that house where I assume he’s allowed to move back into. It breaks my heart.

Her dad has already spoken about this publicly. Saying she’s extremely anxious and scared that the boy can come back to the house. I would be going for full custody tbh. That poor girl.

Is there a petition for this, to demand justice for Aria Thorpe?

The idea that a 15 year old boy can get a knife and end up killing a child of 9 is just horrific, but even more so to be found not guilty or murder or manslaughter.

This really does show to me the contempt this country has for women and girls and the high priority it places on protecting males. Just like the case of the boys who raped those teenage girls and were initially spared jail, it makes we wonder exactly how far our legal system is corrupt and biased against females and in favour of males.

I have written to Ms Braverman and encouraged her in her campaign and also included my MP in the email.

I agree with you.

The fact there was (it appears) another miscarriage of justice in a case where both individuals were male and black doesn't mean there was not a miscarriage of justice here!

"It is law. Nothing to do with gender." How do you know that?

You are saying that the case of these black teenage boys didn't reach as many people via media as people are less concerned with violence in the black community and I think you may well be completely correct on that front. So if colour of skin can affect media reporting and opinions, and potentially juries and legal systems, why not the sex of the victim or perpetrator?

I don't see how you can say one area affects people and another not!
