WTF is going on here on MN??

Jesus, back in the noughties, women used to stand by each other. This didn't mean agreeing with what you said or sycophancy etc, but it was clear that even if there was disagreement, it was stated respectfully without this name calling and digging/dog-pilling that is rife on here these days. Where are the respectful arguments and debates?

WTF is going on? It's lazy to slate someone rather than putting forward a coherent argument taking apart the points. I'm beginning to wonder if that's how the boomers felt about us Gen X-ers after they'd gone through post war rations and restrictions and went nuts in the 60's/70's.

I firmly believe that the reason women don't run the world is because they work against each other and show a lack of solidarity, whilst some men seem to work with others they loathe because they bring a 'benefit' and they can tolerate that as long as it brings them collectively to a goal. I really don't see this currently with women outside of my generation. What am I missing?

How about some concrete examples? Women aren't a monolith, neither are men.

Is this because your other thread isn't going so well?

Just because women on that thread don't agree with you that a man is predatory for asking a woman if she would like to meet up with him and go to a gig.

That’s such a general post that it’s impossible to respond to it. Can you at least say in what contexts you think women are working against each other rather than demonstrating support? Surely you can’t mean that all women should support the views and positions of all other women, when those women have such a wide range of views and positions, some of which are clearly unreasonable or irresponsible?

Viviennemary · 01/05/2026 16:02

You complain women don't support each other. But then go off on a rant about how awful everyone is. Calling them lazy. You are missing that you are hyper critical.

SilenceInside · 01/05/2026 16:08

You firmly believe that women don't run the world because they work against each other and show a lack of solidarity?? And you don't see any women outside of the GenX age range working together and showing solidarity with each other? Not a single example of it anywhere?

I would suggest that the issue is with your perception.

ErrolTheDragon · 01/05/2026 16:24

Have you seen the rest of (male dominated) social media?😂

fwiw I see plenty of women supporting other women on MN. Maybe it depends which threads you choose to participate in?🤷‍♀️

I don't think being rude during discussions online is an issue with women. I think all people are combative during differences of opinion, particularly online, and men are frequently worse than women.

Even in person, people seem less respectful in regards to differences of opinion these days, and more extreme. But again, I don't think that's a female thing.

I don't think the reason women 'don't run the world' is because of a lack of solidarity. That's a wild take.

I do think that, unfortunately, too many women buy into patriarchal beliefs and work against other women while ingratiating themselves with patriarchy. You can see that very clearly on here in discussions about trans issues, porn, and stag dos, where some women can't seem to dick pander hard enough.

Charlize43 · 06/05/2026 21:45

I don't think it has anything to do with age and generations. Look at the Womens Equality Party, which was founded by older women: Sandi Toksvig is almost 70. Within no time, they'd fallen out with Heather Brunskell-Evans, all the infighting, the shit show it became, before becoming defunct.

I also think men do it all the time as well.

secretrocker · 07/05/2026 09:06

It's a myth that women are supportive of each other. Some are, many aren't. I don't believe there's a "sisterhood" to any great degree.
It's also laughable to think men work together - they conflict all the time, there's no coherence there either.

GaIadriel · 07/05/2026 19:30

Well, there have a been a LOT of studies showing that women typically prefer a male boss over being managed by another female and feel even more strongly about this than men do - last study I read had 500,000 respondents. Also, that men collaborate better at work and a man/woman team will usually collaborate better than two women.

Also, that women are more reluctant to help a colleague the more senior she is to them. That was a study by a female Harvard professor and she commented something to the effect that it was often more a case of 'kicking the ladder away' than the female solidarity you'd expect. There's a thread somewhere on here with all the studies linked.

I think in general it's often that people identify more by ideology than sex. So a 'woke' woman will see more differences than similarities with a tradwife or conservative woman despite sharing the same sex.

I've always thought it's pretty clear that men hold the power because it ultimately comes down to force at the end of the day. Like, America wouldn't be the power it is today if it entirely disbanded it's army tomorrow.

And in the past it was physical strength. The ability to impose your will by force. Whether that was two primates fighting over a meal or a ruler with an army of big burly soldiers ready to enforce his word.

MsAmerica · 10/05/2026 02:42

I'm on an American sub-forum specifically for women, and I'm constantly horrified at how often it illustrates the worst stereotypes, such as women only being interested in frivolous things.
