Girlguiding

I received an email this morning. I'll copy and paste it below.

I'm not sure whether to respond, they say they want 'a range of voices'. I don't think I have expressed an interest, well not in supporting men/boys who think they are women / girls.

Thank you for expressing an interesting in joining the Girlguiding taskforce to explore new opportunities for trans girls and trans women. The taskforce is open to all to enable us to hear a range of voices on this important topic.

We’re recruiting a small group of people from the taskforce to join a panel. This panel will generate inclusive, lawful and viable recommendations for trans girls and trans women to connect with and be supported by Girlguiding.

We value people's experiences and we want all voices to be a part of the conversation. We're looking into ways we can compensate members of the panel for their time. Please note any compensation is specific to this project and for panel members only, not those who are on the taskforce or paid staff.

As part of the panel, you will:
Listen to all voices in the Girlguiding community.
Take part in big conversations and capture new ideas.
Offer feedback and examples of good practice.
Share learnings and different ways of supporting people.

Being part of the panel will involve taking part in online meetings every 2 weeks from 5:30 to 7pm. The day of these meetings will change. We anticipate these will begin with a briefing on the week starting Monday 26 January and run until the end of March 2026. There will also be reading required before meetings.

If you’re interested in joining the panel please follow the link below to complete the application. We’ll use the information you provide here to select a small number of people to join.

The deadline for completing this is midnight on Sunday 18 January.

It would be interesting to know how they selected those they are inviting

Supporterofwomensrights · 13/01/2026 12:46

I'd be interested to know how they can do this under the Girlguiding umbrella given that it must contravene their charitable purpose. They should make it clear they are going to do this as a separate legal and financial entity - they could say they intend to be 'sister' organisations that mirror each other as far as possible but they should not use Girlguiding resources to help people who are not female.

IANAL or even a business person but this is my amateur understanding. I think GG is a charity and has to use all its resources to support actual girls.

Clearly not aimed at people with real children, then, as this can be one of the busiest times of the day for families. Even if the guides don’t need feeding and putting to bed they may well have younger siblings who do.

They could change their charitable purpose to widen access boys and men (trans).

I have a feeling the MRAs will push for this so that GG is no longer single sex. Heaven forbid the girls have anything for themselves.

Supporterofwomensrights · 13/01/2026 15:47

But surely money donated to date was for a specific purpose (girls) so if they expand to boys they'd have to wait until they'd used all the funding donated to help girls?

My guides meeting is from 5-6.30 pm.

I recieved the mail and won't respond. I have just left the guides to settle in my native country.
I have joined guides here. They don't have this discussion (yet maybe).

Yes, I should have added the sort of early evening activities like guides, football practice, swimming and so on that often take place during that time.

Presumably anyone can apply as it seems the application is open until this Sunday

hopefully enough mumsnetters will press that apply here button
