Surrogacy UN Report

I caught women's hour in the podcast yesterday from October 16th. The guest Reem Asalem wrote a report for the UN on surrogacy and I was surprised to hear the strength of her argument. She terms it as violence against women in no uncertain terms.

I thought there would already be a thread about it but couldn't see one.

I felt the second speaker, who was a surrogate herself had more implied support from the presenter.

I looked to read the report but couldn't find it but note that Ree Asalem's wiki profile calls her an anti trans campaigner so someone has been busy editing.

It feels like there's a big agenda at play here.

I have increasingly felt uncomfortable about surrogacy. Probably the shift from something rare, done for childless couples to something for wealthy people and seen as everyone's right to a family. I was shocked when a colleague was considering going to Eastern Europe for a surrogate. He and his wife only decided against because he wouldn't have looked like the child because of his own ethnicity. It seems very callous.

Has anyone read the report? What did you think?
