Teenage girl murdered in the Netherlands

I just want to express my shock and outrage regarding the case of Lisa,age 17 who was murdered whilst cycling home from a party in Amsterdam.

I had just returned from a holiday in that exact area.I felt that it was a wonderfully safe place for women and girls compared to most other cities I have been to.The pictures of the tributes are placed at the same area that my teen daughter and I walked happily along just a week ago.Its also an area full of students and families. That poor girl and her family. I am sickened by these evil men.

Awful.

What could it be that's suddenly making the streets of The Netherlands unsafe for women and girls, I wonder 🤔

how many women and girls are killed by Dutch men? Where is the outrage ?

My daughter is in Holland at the moment. She previously went on a tour of several cities, travelling alone but visiting friends but this time she is staying in Zandvoort and will be visiting Amsterdam.

This is tragic, but the fact it has made the news like shows shows it is fairly rare. It's when murders of women don't make the news that it shows we have become desensitised.

The killer could just as easily have been a Dutch man as an asylum seeker.

I think if I had fled my home country in fear of my life and was hoping to be given a safe haven in another country, I would be keeping my head down and being super-careful not to break any laws.

On the other hand if I was strongly inclined to rape and murder people I suppose pretending to need asylum in a nice liberal country might give me a nice chance of getting away with a much lighter punishment than I might receive in my third-world homeland.

Statistically there's much more chance of a Dutch man committing femicide simply down to the higher proportion of Dutch men in Holland. However, I believe the latest stats show that foreign nationals are over represented in proportion to their numbers. I think Afghan men were 3x more likely to commit a sex crime (not 22x more likely as Farage claimed).

The argument seems to be that you can't really deport the native men but you can vet immigrants from countries with highly misogynistic cultures.

Exactly. Where is the outrage.

So awful & needless-European countries need to stop allowing immigration of males from 3rd world countries. Her poor family-such a waste of a beautiful life

It says he had been arrested before for another attack ! This is horrendous

I think all men should be under a curfew and not be out after 8pm so we women can move freely without fear of rape or murder.

Part of me agrees with you. And part of me wonders how my son would be able to get home from work if that were the case!

There was that guy who raped a 13 year old English girl repeatedly but he was good at volleyball so it's different.

I hope the men who did this go away for a long time. I hope they suffer. But pretending it's only an issue when a brown man attacks a Dutch girl but no big deal when a white Dutch man attacks an English (or any foreign) child is peak hypocrisy.

It's not just Afghans that are complained about. English tourists are a known problem especially in Amsterdam. It is discussed a LOT and TBF its the stag parties given the English a bad name and being rowdy. But, while I don't want to excuse the English men actually committing crimes/causing issues, it is kind of hypocritical for the Dutch authorities to encourage tourists to come to the country to pay Eastern European women for sex and then complain that said tourists are not the best sort. They want the money from the sex trade, and they want to pretend it's super empowering but they also want the men who come for non-consensual sex with women to be princes of good behaviour.

See also this case - the Dutch don't like to lock people up/punish them heavily which is probably correct for lots of crimes but sticks in the craw for sexual crimes etc. but I have had this argument before and they love imagining themselves to be super tolerant and liberal. But it makes women less safe in these instances. But you can't only get angry when it's a migrant doing it and ignore all the other stuff.

And a super fun, cool guy attitude to cocaine/turning a blind eye to drugs snuggling for years combined with outrage at the mocro-mafia.

I love the Netherlands. But some of the problems are part of Dutch culture NOT a foreign imposition and pretending otherwise helps no-one.

I feel awful about that girls murder. I am glad people are protesting it. If it increases police response times, or leads to harsher treatment of rapists so they can't continue committing crimes the outrage will have done a good thing. I hope it doesn't get diverted.
