Sarah Montgomery - another woman killed in Northern Ireland

Devastating news about Sarah Montgomery - 27 years old, two young girls and 33 weeks pregnant with her third. A 28 year old man has been arrested. 27 women have now been murdered in N.Ireland since 2020. Mostly by people they know, mostly by people they’ve loved, or mothered and mostly in their own homes. Why?

It's awful, and heartbreaking to think about those 2 children who should be enjoying the summer and now don't have a mummy. NI is apparently the most dangerous place in Europe to be female - that's shocking.

This is beyond comprehension. I feel powerless that there is nothing we, as a society, can do to prevent and put an end to his barbaric violence. No protesting, no platitudes - it's not going to stop. Physical strength means more opportunities for violence. Stating the obvious I know. I feel so sad and angry and overwhelmed at this. Another face staring back at us from thw news. Two girls left without a mother. A baby (yes, 7 months) killed in the womb. It's sick.

It's so bad. Northern Ireland felt so safe for a long time too after the troubles ended. Now it's wild altogether.

Most of these 27 women were murdered by men. This fact is still hidden, or obscured. The press talks about the killers and murderers as 'people'. We need to name it. Male violence. Men.

Sorry for the rant. Deepest condolences to Sarah's family.

This BBC story gives an excellent background to all of the ladies whose lives were stolen from them, and how they were murdered. 1 (ONE!) was killed by a woman, the remaining 26, were killed by men. So many of these men then went on to kill themselves; why on earth did they have to take the women with them?

In at least 20 of the 27 deaths, the killers - or the suspects in their killings - were well-known to the women.

I can’t help but think on that many of the subsequent suicides are just an extension of a poor me mentality. They can’t face up to what they have done and the legal consequences. Those poor women and their children. What monsters.
