Will anyone else be listening to Desert Island Discs this morning? Or on Sounds at any time?

https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m00282l0

I am in awe of her agreeing to do this. But hesitant about actually listening …

It’s on now.

Changing minds “One man at a time”.

I hope this episode wins prizes.

(And a little sad that her name doesn’t appear to be known here …)

Well
Give some info then

I heard the first part of it and was interested, but then had to go do something else. I'm not from the UK and hadn't heard of her.

Was confused by the OP and googled her. My god, so sad to read about her daughters.

ColdHenrietta · 16/02/2025 11:10

I’m sorry you were confused, @honeyfox - the BBC link is working properly at the moment.

I recall at the time media references to her were painfully dismissive, too - despite all she has done as a human being and as a woman in the UK.

No worries @ColdHenrietta. I meant I didn't understand why you were in awe of her agreeing to do the show. I get it now.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 16/02/2025 11:43

I know who she is and will steel myself to listen. She has shown incredible strength in the most awful of circumstances.

FranticFrankie · 16/02/2025 11:46

Amazing woman

Fozzleyplum · 16/02/2025 11:52

I was delighted when I realised she was a DID guest. It's not an easy listen, but she really is an incredible person - eloquent, measured and considered, despite losing 2 of her daughters in the the most horrendous way.

ColdHenrietta · 16/02/2025 15:42

I don’t think even I realised how much more there is to her. Inevitably her name will always now be associated with the terrible thing that happened - but she has led such a full and interesting life.

Also inevitably her record choices made me weep.

Mina is so inspiring. An honour to listen to her.
