Neither of you are mad...🤔I didn't catch it right off and I thought it had been too long to edit, but no. I nearly left it because funny 😁

Yes!

I may be some time. Someone get a gerbil to fetch me if I'm not back by 10pm...

.

Thanks Android. Although bearded blokey with a cup of hot tribble can bugger off back to the Staunch Ally and stop trying to hijack my hot chocolate!

Tube of Parma violets, that's the ones, vile violet scent. My pal V's all time favorites, which just goes to show it takes all sorts. Prawns hadn't happened, but pear drops had. Also nasty, but any affordable sugar product in a storm.

And for all your bovine friends' needs: Cheno Unction - still going strong, 50 years after I first heard of it.

https://www.greggcare.ie/product/cheno-unction

Oh no! I came back to the Bluestocking too late to play the guessing game Deano! But TBH I wouldn't have guessed it - I remembered the slogan all right but obviously blanked the product from my memory.

Do you remember '10-10-20', another agricultural product?

I seem to have started something with the words 'sweet treats'Smile
Peggy's Leg, anyone? Yallaman/Yellowman?

I left him in when he gatecrashed my images as he appears to be apologising or proposing, either of which might tempt you, but I've given him the bum's rush as requested.

Magpiecomplex · 10/01/2025 18:36

Can't abide a man with a beard. They always look like they're trying to hide something.

Fella says he can see four planets at the moment. I imagine five if he looks down.

Jupiter just below the moon, Saturn and Venus near to each other and Mars also below the moon but a little further to the left.

DeanElderberry · 10/01/2025 18:40

10 10 20

https://www.agriland.ie/farming-news/its-10-10-20-day/

As someone in a discussion on Boards.ie said, the evening radio used to be massively agricultural, between the adverts for worm drenches and the stock prices. Not stocks and shares you understand, steers and hogs and heifers, and crans of herrings. How Ireland has changed.

ifIwerenotanandroid · 10/01/2025 18:40

... taps fingers waiting for Marie to comment on/explain 'bum's rush'...

Hmm. No sign of her. Shame, because I wanted to ask her about 'dyke hike' which I recently came across & I realised excitedly that I got invited to one, many years ago when I invited a lesbian friend & her partner to tea, & when they got here & saw we had open countryside next to the house they immediately proposed a walk, which took me completely by surprise. So, Marie, have I had the privilege of going on a dyke hike?

MarieDeGournay · 10/01/2025 18:42

Welcome back Cher!
I thought I saw a casual en-passant post from you earlier on, that made no reference to any surgical unpleasantries, but I half-thought I had read the name wrong, and half-thought that your account had been hackedGrin

I hope you feel stronger soon, but all in good time - for now, take all the attention you can get from gerbils, quokkas, humans, anything at all that makes you feel cossetted comfy and cared-forSmile

A weak chin and/or emergency rations.

DeanElderberry · 10/01/2025 18:45

I quite like some beards on some men, but am choosy about it and don't like the look of that one or the effect he's had on some of the gerbils. I also continue to be disturbed by AI's lack of any understanding as to how fire works.

arrrrrgh! I'm completely lost! I've just popped in the door, haven't even ordered my hot choc yet, now I have to go back and find out WTF I'm supposed to be replying to...

which is not at all a complaint, really, it's nice to get all this attention and be in demandBlush

FuzzyPuffling · 10/01/2025 18:47

Welcome back Cher. Lovely to see you.

I saw a magpie today. Usually I say " Good morning Mr Magpie, how's your wife and family?". Today it was "Good morning Dr Magpie. How's your family and.students?". This place is getting to me.

"Sports mixture"- bit like wine gums but in the shapes of tennis racquets, cricket bats, rugby balls etc. Mrs Bishop, the sweetshop.owner used to tell my sister " no, you can't have all black ones".

ifIwerenotanandroid · 10/01/2025 18:52

Nope. No sports mixture round here. Those pastel coloured powdery sticks somone mentioned were known as Edinburgh Rock, I think. Completely tasteless.

DeanElderberry · 10/01/2025 18:52

To give a bum the rush is to hasten him off the premises (by force if necessary) to pursue his dubious lifestyle elsewhere.

I've just been outside with my binoculars, it's a very clear night.
Bloody cold though, unsurprisingly.

MarieDeGournay · 10/01/2025 19:01

I desperately trying to catch up here:
Myrtle: when I say the full OED I mean the full OED, this is the Bluestocking and nothing else will doWink
And it also means that we can hold a mug of hot choc AND leaf through a dictionary without any difficulty, or spills.

android: Bum's rush - am I being asked to suggest the origin?? I'm assuming it's 'bum' in the US meaning 'beggar', and the bum's rush is sending someone swiftly on their way.
Dyke hike means 'a long walk with one or more lesbians', OR possibly 'a long walk along a linear earthwork between England and Wales' OR giving a lesbian the bum's rush by telling her to take a dyke hike..

for instance if you invite one around for tea and she says 'Oh what lovely open countryside let's go for a long walk', you could tell her to take a dyke hike..literallyGrin

Gerbil! Give me a hot chocolate, and another one on the side. And don't be stingy..

I tried to send my man out but he refused on the grounds it would be cold & probably cloudy. I'm just about to make dinner though, so I'll have a quick look.

DH has gone out. Both the cats are staring at me unnervingly. Are they planning some kind of catty coup?

WhiteHairedMyrtle · 10/01/2025 19:16

Quite right, Marie, I had forgotten we were at the Bluestocking! So.of course you can have all 20 volumes in one book. And I love that the spills don't happen. I bought a beautiful cream top from an expensive shop in December and it has a spill which I didn't notice before I washed it 😥

Of course they are, Fuzzy. They're cats.

I've just had a look myself, Mars and Jupiter are very obvious in the west. Venus and Saturn were visible out another window, north. I'm not very good with constellations but Orion and Cassiopea are easy.
