Dear Beautiful Mumsnet Fem. People,

I hope this message finds you well.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

I was hoping to get some help. I have ongoing financial court matter with my ex . We never been married. I know the situation, but I am sue ing him on behalf of my son. My questions are:

  • anyone knows how men hide their income for the court especially self employed?
  • strategies how to minimise child maintenance as a self employed
  • What could I say to the legal team (I am on legal aid and it seems they just want to close the case) to be sure that he is not hiding anything.
  • Can I order a forensic accountant?

Any thoughts/suggestions are welcome.

Many thanks
Lucy T.

Did you mean to put your name there?

My friend's self employed dh just stopped working and went on universal credit. Moved in with his mammy and went on his PlayStation whilst she had four kids to pay for. He said in court he couldn't work because of anxiety at the break up. It was him that ended the marriage. He also spent what money he had on a holiday.

I don't know why it matters if people want to put a name on their posts. She's only talking about child maintenance.

Well if he’s self employed and he can, he’ll be asking for cash, then all that work is totally off the record. In the last 13 months I have had loads of work done at my house and the majority of tradesmen prefer cash. And not just small jobs either, I’ve had to pay 2 grand here, 3 grand there all in cash. One day I visited every cash point in town with 5 different cards in an attempt to get the cash together.

Assuming he’s a tradesman he’ll be doing this.
