Melissa Hoskins - husband pleads guilty

BBC

I remember this when it happened, shocking incident.

I feel so sorry for her children and family. I hope he goes to prison. I don't know how likely it is - i don't think Australia has a particularly good record on punishing domestic abuse (does anywhere!)

I know there will be apologists saying it was an accident, but I've always said if you want to kill someone and get away with it, do it with a car - I'm sure I'm not alone in that sentiment.

There was speculation in a Spanish newspaper that a cyclist arrested on domestic abuse charges in a certain town in Spain some years earlier was the same guy - they lived for a period there (along with other pro cyclists, so the possibility remains it was someone else).

Anyway, RIP Melissa. I hope her children are OK and this serves as some sort of justice for them.

'The 34-year-old was initially charged with dangerous driving causing death and driving without due care, but on Tuesday he admitted a lesser charge - one aggravated count of creating the likelihood of harm.' I suspect the maximum sentence will be a suspended driving licence and some community service. I wish they had pressed ahead with the more serious charges. Presumably his kids are quite young too.

It does feel like he's going to get away with it totally.

No doubt he will say he needs to be there for his children, in mitigation, to avoid the possibility of prison.

Her parents must be absolutely devastated 💔
