Link works but it's paywalled, so I only got the first few lines. That was enough. Fourteen!

SensibleSigma · 21/09/2024 07:50

It was one in three reported rapes, @NoBinturongsHereMate

Not just a terrible statistic, but to me also indicative of the vulnerability of girls. I suspect they are abused not only by peers but targeted by older men for their vulnerability.

No, I misremembered. 1 in 3 are under 18.

14 is the biggest age group.

God that's awful. Good for them for reporting it. Can a day go by where men don't do fucked up shit?

offyoujollywelltrot · 21/09/2024 07:57

Here's the archive link past the paywall

AlisonDonut · 21/09/2024 08:00

They haven't learnt yet that there is no point in reporting.

SensibleSigma · 21/09/2024 08:06

I thought the same, @AlisonDonut . Then I wondered whether adults are helping/making them report because of safeguarding procedures.

Christ this is horrendous. I am happy that there is a strong government commitment to tackle sexual violence but even if it was successful it would be years too slow for today’s teenagers. Also what resources are the government pouring in to support those teenagers at the moment?

And obviously there needs to be instant action from the social media companies to respond to this. It’s so depressing that there won’t be any action or any restriction placed on them even with shocking statistics like these. The smartphone free childhood campaigners are really on to something but that depends a lot of parental social culture and expectations which is way slower to change than the internet and capitalism is to evolve.

There isn't a strong government commitment to do anything otherwise why release so many domestic abusers and fail to jail paedophiles?

The government needs to address this in schools as a matter of urgency. Not just posters of oh that's so gay or trans hate. This is the true epidemic to address.

BobbyBiscuits · 21/09/2024 12:13

You can read it through a website that disabled the JavaScript. I know of one but dk if I can post it here...

poppyzbrite4 · 21/09/2024 12:22

There isn't enough information here. Where are these girls being assaulted? Who by? Has there been a rise in reports rather than a rise in assaults?

SensibleSigma · 21/09/2024 14:06

Someone kindly posted a share link upthread, and there’s another thread I linked with loads of further discussion

I am so very sad to say I agree and it’s probably both.

I wonder how this impacts on the numbers of young women wanting to become young men?
