This has really angered me.

£31,000 ‘blood money’ for raping, torturing and killing a 5-year old?

I don’t agree with a death penalty but why should a father be exempt if anyone else would have been executed?

Glad to know the royal family have intervened but they shouldn’t have had to.

I often think about places where women are worth less than livestock. It puts things in perspective. We, the West, should be doing more for these women and girls instead of the constant navel gazing.

Why does the west have to keep on fixing problems, shouldn't the countries themselves be sorting their own issues? If they want to be feral and live like savages their government can fix it

I guess what annoys me is the hypocrisy of decrying the West as oppressive based on it being run by ‘white men’ and on how the office air con works but completely overlooking the barbaric practices against women and girls elsewhere.

There is so much wrong here. First that men are not subject to execution for harming their children. Second, that he could pay to compensate for his crimes and third that her life was worth half of a boys.

I'm not sure if it's in Saudi but I've also heard of compensation to parents for the murder and rape of their daughters and the woman being forced to marry the rapist.

Our royal family are friends with the Saudi royals. I believe they gave the Queen horses. We don't criticise Saudi because they're very rich and we enjoy their oil.

These countries should be ostracised for the way they treat women and girls. There are an awful amount of very sick and depraved people in the world. Not only the person who committed this crime but the society that believes a few months in jail if he pays some money, is an acceptable punishment.

What is it about these men and very young girls? Lock me up now.
