"I had to serve alongside people that claimed to support the KKK, Britain First and/or the English Defence League,” she said in her witness statement provided to the tribunal. She said male soldiers would call her a “black bitch” but say: “I’d still shag you though.”

“One evening I returned to my room to see someone had drawn images of huge black penises all over the wardrobes in my room,” the statement said.

Absolutely disgusting and she was removed from her position because of her mental health.

Institutions are gonna institution, because they don't exist separate from people and we are deeply flawed as humans imo. And so they need to constantly be on top of their processes and regulation because it will never be done.

Summerhillsquare · 02/08/2024 18:42

Yes but some institutions are much worse than others. Aggressive macho environments like sports club, the police and the forces are the worst.

mightymam · 02/08/2024 18:47

Not surprised at all, sadly. I work in a similar setting to a young offenders institution and almost all the vile, misogynistic and racist young men want to go into the army. This poor girl. I hope she gets the helps she deserves in addressing what she's gone through- the trial itself must have been traumatising.

I felt devastated for her, she describes how she went into the military with such hopes, thinking she was going to be a trailblazer and was completely destroyed by the relentless toxic environment.

So awful. What a brave woman she must be to have gone through the process of taking them to a tribunal.

And the cheeky fuckers used her on a recruitment poster 🤬

The women at the bases in Afghanistan tell of going to the toilets in groups of two or more because of the danger of rape from their so-called comrades in arms.

The Pentagon has ordered an urgent inquiry into reports that more than 100 American women deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan have been raped or sexually assaulted by fellow soldiers, it emerged yesterday.

There have been 112 cases of sexual assault on women soldiers in units under central command, which oversees operations in the Middle East and central Asia, during the past 18 months. Meanwhile more than 20 women at an air force training base in Texas have told a local crisis centre they were assaulted in 2002.

Just when you think men can't get any worse.

That's just the US, you can imagine what's going on in the military elsewhere.

Yes, it's everywhere.

Deardeidree · 04/08/2024 20:10

And if that’s how they treat female soldiers how do you think they treat civilian
women? I’ve heard some awful stories from east Africa about what the foreign (US/Uk etc) soldiers do there.

Just reading about poor Gunner Beck and came on to try to find a thread - this was as close as I can find.

I was wondering if it is time for us to have a women's only army? I think the army will always attract angry, misogynistic and power hungry men who don't have the self control to work without huge supervision and forceful power structures watching over them on a daily basis. In that respect I suspect it is one of the most dangerous places for a young woman to work.

mitogoshigg · 22/02/2025 11:32

We had a women only branch, they were very much to support the men. I can't speak for the army but my DD's in the navy and says she had no issues whatsoever, very respectful and supportive of females, almost too much in her opinion as she doesn't want special treatment, she met the men's criteria on fitness for instance out of pride. She's got dozens of men reporting to her!

Summerhillsquare · 22/02/2025 11:46

A women's peace corp - I'd join that!
