Always got to be about them

A couple of things have annoyed me in the last few days, several articles online that have been about women yet some men have commented saying what about men? This happens to us too. Just so annoying and unnecessary, we don't go on threads about them and hijack it.

OP posts:

True. I suspect you will also rarely see women at a site geared towards men saying NAWALT when men speak of their experiences with women.
That men do this commonly shows their insecurity and controlling desire to police women's thoughts about them.

There's a currently a man on a thread on the Relationships board about how much women enjoy being single, mansplaining and claiming he is not like other men. I know MN is open to all, but honestly what are men doing here?!!

WHo's that woman who talks about the two charities she's involved in? The men's MH one, it's all 'how wonderful, you're a star'. The women's one is all 'what about the men?'

As well I bet very serious money that all the charities are typical that the grunt work is done by women but most of the well-paid jobs go to men. I've worked in lots of male-focused roles (homelessness etc.) and no one ever asks, 'what about the women?' Ever.

It's because male is normative and men aren't used to being sidelined. I remember when the Guardian got a new editor and there were a lot of articles about women and the men wanted to know why. They simply weren't used to articles not being about men even though women make up half the population.

Newspapers also used to have a 'female' section that men could skip, instead of a mixture of articles in the actual paper. Some organisation (can't remember who) collected pictures from newspapers over a year. All the serious articles were of men and all the pictures of women were scantily clad puff pieces.

Yeesh. That fucking guy.
"I have never seen this indoctrination that you speak of."
Naturally, he doesn't understand that privilege makes you blind to those things. I'm already sick and tired of all these patholgically defensive men on MN and I haven't even been on here long.
FFS, can women have no spaces where we can talk without them bothering us?

I was making a PowerPoint the other day. I needed a picture of personal training. Millions of pictures of male trainer/female student. Some of male both. Very very few female both. ONE of a female trainer/male student. And that was a real trainer rather than internet twaddle.

It's invisible to men. They see themselves but women are invisible. And they don't care. If you had millions of pictures of female trainers and male students, they'd notice.

When women are represented they get angry as well. Remember the male hysteria over Ghost Busters having an all female cast? They can't stand it when even one film uses women instead of men as protagonists. Imagine if it was the norm for women to be represented more than men. They'd probably get suicidal, the poor dears.

Superlambaanana · 22/07/2024 07:24

We know only too well they pretend to get suicidal when they don't get whatever they want - Jolyon Maugham has proven that.

SerafinasGoose · 22/07/2024 19:03

I'm not sure what it is about a popular site aimed at and used by a predominantly female demographic makes male users - not even talking about the red pill variety here - believe women are queuing up to hear their opinions.

They are simply incapable of leaving us alone.

Superlambaanana · 22/07/2024 20:26

There's another one on this thread telling women why we're all wrong and he's right. Makes me vomit it's so creepy. No reasonable person would persist in ramming their opinions down other's throats like this.

It's conversational rape.

I vote ignore. He's been in other feminist chat threads saying similar boring shite.

Superlambaanana · 22/07/2024 21:26

Oh I make a point of not engaging directly with them when I realise it's a man. But I can't help but post how hideous I find it when men invade these threads. What sort of person comes onto a women's forum to do that?! I hope they will see how weird and inappropriate they are being. But I do realise it's pointless really- these are seriously mentally ill misogynists who deliberately seek out women in women's spaces to pontificate to them. They obviously get some kind of perverted kick out of it. It's also very cowardly to do it on an internet forum. I doubt they have the confidence to do it IRL and know that it would rightly be considered harassment and someone would intervene. Unfortunately here they get away with it.

They are control freaks. They have to try to dominate the conversation, especially when it's women talking about men.
