I want him not to be able to give me the flannel that we have to be kind to the woMen. I want assurances that we do t have to share our spaces. I want to not sound like the very nervous person that am I!

Any help appreciated?

Jane, you were amazing.

From my partner, my daughter, my brother and me.

I have to keep saying this but Jeremy Corbyn wanted Brexit just as much as Farage did. The Labour Party sat on the fence about Brexit. The Tories were split and the Lib Dem's were pro remain.

It was so frustrating (as a Remainer) to watch Corbyn not making the Labour Party the party of Remain. They could've had so much goodwill from it, & maybe saved us from Brexit.

He’s supposed to be an intelligent man, one would assume so given his previous high level position, so capable of critical thinking and scrutinising evidence, but on this he is totally blind to the facts.

What I find deeply depressing (as a solicitor) is how many law firms and Chambers have gone along with all this nonsense. Stonewall's list of darling companies has loads of prominent law firms in it. Plus the fucking regulatory body of solicitors (SRA) too. A huge number of people who should know better have actually got heavily involved. It baffles me!

I know the thread has moved on a bit, just catching up, but I totally agree Fluffy, I’m also a solicitor and I was appalled at the number of lawyers who seemed to agree with/celebrate/like Victoria Mccloud’s claim that being ‘legally a woman’ makes them as vulnerable to rape as actual women. Their job is literally supposed to be critical thinking and yet somehow so many lawyers (and others) have failed to apply any thought whatsoever to this ideology in general, but especially to such a shocking claim as that - how can anyone just take that as fact!?

TheaBrandt · 29/06/2024 16:52

It’s frankly embarrassing

ElleWoods15 · 28/06/2024 22:01

ElleWoods15 I presume you weren't an adult before the #MeToo movement happened.

I’m going to take that as a compliment like being IDed to buy a bottle of rosé! Sadly the latter hasn’t happened to me for about 20 years, and I’ve spent those 20 years fighting for gender equality (and just an end to good old office sexual harassment) in a heavily male dominated industry.

But that’s totally irrelevant to this debate, because I consider trans women to be women. And what you’re worried about isn’t actually trans women, it’s male predators pretending to be trans women. Which is different.

So as a pp said.
You know the difference.

Please do explain how we tell one from the other

As someone once said, you've either got men pretending to be women, or men pretending to pretend to be women.

Shit, I forgot to add pips bunce who is a part time trans women. What about him then. Where does he fit in the faking being trans thing.

I played it to DP this afternoon (he's fully on board). He was very impressed by Jane, and said his favourite bit was 'i don't care..'

So many of you have posted compelling arguments for not voting Labour. I am torn as two of my children want me to as they will be. Another one is voting Green. I really don't know what to do as not voting is not an option.

Vote how YOU want. You shouldn't be voting for a party just because a family member or friend wants you to. Why on earth would you do that?

Madcats · 29/06/2024 19:42

I would dearly love an interviewer to produce three wooden spoons (hey, bits of cardboard would work too) after asking Keir qns about single sex spaces:
-I agree
-I don't agree
-Can I just twaddle on about something else

Politicians need to pick their lane!

I've already said why. They haven't told me what they want, I have asked.

CocoapuffPuff · 29/06/2024 20:13

So either do as you've been told by them, or make up your own mind and vote the way you want to. It's not for any of us to give you instructions. If the problem is that you feel stuck between a rock and a hard place, all options are crap.....welcome. Join the club.

BirthdayRainbow · 29/06/2024 20:16

I was just having a conversation..

Runningupthecurtains · 29/06/2024 20:22

We don't know what your options are. Some constituencies have Party of Women candidates. Mine has an excellent independent candidate. You may have other choices but we can't tell you what they are.

I think that would be a great thing to do. Makes the point and funny too.

AReasonablePerson · 29/06/2024 20:58

I haven't yet read this thread. I will. But I've listened several times to your excellent and persevering question. You were fantastic. Thank you, thank you, thank you Jane. And Starmer did what he does. But you really really shone a light on it. I hope he will read these comments some day and feel proper shame. Well done.

AReasonablePerson · 29/06/2024 21:05

"51 % of the population who are absolutely sick of the twaddle that comes out of your mouth when we ask these questions" you absolute legend!!!

slip of the tongue

Very hard to believe. Easy to believe you get your kids' ages wrong (especially the younger ones...!) but their sex? Really difficult to believe.

I agree, I get my DDs ages and names mixed up all the time, but I’d never get confused about their sex’s. Surely a man of his past would be use to being under pressure and understand the importance of getting his words right as well.

IF it is true, then he is keeping a massive secret from the public and has bias just like Tennant, but unlike Tennant he is running for office, therefore can’t keep this from the voters as they need to know that his personal life has an impact on his beliefs.

If it is true, there must be someone out there that knows. I know we are talking about a child, but we are talking about a child whose parent wants to run our country so some things don’t get to stay private.

HoneyButterPopcorn · 29/06/2024 21:59

It was a standing joke in our house that dad could never remember all our birthdays (loads of kids). He never got our sex middled up.

Now half of my family has a mother tongue with no pronouns and sometimes a ‘he’ slips in when a ‘she’ should be - but it’s always corrected.

BirthdayRainbow · 29/06/2024 22:16

His sons name is in the public domain but his daughters isn't. I think it's fine to keep their family life separate.

He is the one who did not keep them separate. He could always have just said "I don't talk about my kids" and left it there. But he didn't. He also gave a strong impression it was fine to roll out his daughter when talking about the Lionesses. He must think the rest of us can't read or something.

Devonbabs · 29/06/2024 12:31

No one has forced Labour to do anything - they have achieved a cluster fuck of a political party all by themselves.

Starmer and his cohorts certainly did their utmost to undermine the former leader who actually did represent change rather than their current feeble “more of the same in a different shade” offering, that’s for sure.

Labou has become a party formed by an Overton window shifted right by Brexit, which was itself directly brought about by Camoron’s fear of Farage and the subsequent scapegoating of migrant workers for his and Osborne’s deliberate political choice of austerity over infrastructural investment.

Throw in the lying media that has been drip-feeding the basically stupid electorate its political opinions since 1896 and you have the perfect storm that has made non-opposition the only (non)alternative capable of winning a general election.

Like I said, truly done for.

BreatheAndFocus · 30/06/2024 08:05

This is such a daft statement, Elle. Try looking at it a different way and perhaps you’ll get it. Think of men (or ‘cis’ men as you might call them). Do we have Female toilets because we hate all men, think they’re all perverts and don’t want them to exist? No! We have Female toilets because we can’t tell which men are the bad ones!

More than that safety reason, female people might want female only toilets for privacy, dignity, or religious or other reasons.

P.S - your statement is transphobic according to GI. People are who they say they are. If Gary the sex abuser says he’s a women, the GI rules say that’s what he is.

Knackeredwithteen · 30/06/2024 08:59

Jane the way you stuck to your point was incredible well done. My family and friends all think you did absolutely brilliantly.
and this made me laugh in x #bemorejane.
