Feminism Boards

Whats the difference between the Feminism Chat board and the Feminism Sex and Gender board?

There's a thread on the Chat board about the Girl Guides' trans policy- surely that should be on the Sex and Gender board? And I see threads about discrimination against women on the Sex and Gender board which aren't related to gender (in the trans sense).

Maybe it doesn't matter.

Or maybe the Sex and Gender board isn't intended to be exclusively about trans issues as feminism is obviously a sex based issue.

Or maybe the trans issue is now so entangled that it's impossible to have a discussion about feminism without referring to it, but I do hope that's not the case!

Wouldn't it make more sense to have a board for trans related discussions and a separate one for all other feminist discussions?

The trans issue takes up a lot of airtime here and seems to be drowning out other discussions about feminism- discrimination, women's rights, women's history, feminist literature etc etc. I'd welcome a break from the constant head fuck of the trans debate which I believe is, in itself, a form of discrimination against women as it is forcing us to spend so much time talking about men's desired rights!

Most serious, right thinking people are not taken in by the inane ranting of cartoon profiled, multi hair coloured man babies with a weird sexual fetish.

This is transphobic, and reductive.

Also go talk to the women for eg sharing a female prison estate with a male offender, or women who can’t access rape support services because those services believe TWAW so have transwomen ie male staff and/or service users.
And I wouldn’t describe Stephen Whittle (look up Press for Change) as a “multi hair coloured man babies”.

I also don't believe trans women will eventually take over from women in the workplace because employers will want to save on maternity cover. To suggest nonsense like this does a disservice to the genuine concerns about single sex spaces and women's sports, and gives non-feminists a reason to ridicule feminism and perpetuate the hysterical trope.

This is sexist, and shortsighted.
There was a board of directors that had a 50\50 quota but also believed TWAW so 50% men and 50% transwomen was all dandy thank you.
Go chat to the women who don’t have a female only Hampstead Heath pond to swim in, even though there are 3. 1 men only, 1 mixed, 1 women only, but the ponds believe TWAW, and there is at least 1 v vocal, probably quite well known transwoman who uses the women’s pond, and probably others who don’t crow about it on X.

I take your points but in reality there aren't enough TW to comprise half of a company, unless there are like six employees.

No, no censoring whatsoever on the sex and gender board. No special rules, very few deletions, nobody monitors and shitsposts to screenshot on twitter how evil we apparently are, no recipes deleted, no smilies deleted, no constant comparisons to Nazis that run and run whilst a reference to any man who says he is a woman gets deleted pronto as 'not in the spirit', it's absolutely not censored in any shape or form.

Those are Mnet rules. They would be applied with or without this board.

AlisonDonut · 17/06/2024 23:17

Exactly. No special rules that only apply to one board, none at all. Never happened. It's all a figment of your fevered imaginations.

ArabellaScott · 17/06/2024 23:22

Thank goodness!

What are you talking about?Confused

I guess you may not know that years ago, there was a man who says he is a woman who took umbrige at one post and went screaming to Twitter that he was being discriminated against on here.

The one post was if I remember correctly, about disability. I have it on my hard drive somewhere in the cupboard.

So in response to this one man, who then decided to start legal proceedings against MN, they brought in a set of rules for the FWR board. It got to the stage where non members of MN could report posts on Twitter directly to MNHQ and they would be taken down immediately.

Women could not call a man a man for years. There was arguments and complaints and many, many deletions. People were banned. MN was being used by TRAs to manipulate and control the women on here pointing out what was going on. People got banned for suggesting that MNHQ were being used by TRAs and coercively controlled by them, whilst publicising the issues of coercive control to other boards.

Other people eventually managed to get any threads about the issue of the creep of men into women's spaces sidelined off into a special board. They originally named it something like 'Trans issues' rather than Sex and Gender. But that was changed.

Various activists who were gunning for Kiwi Farms threatened that Mumsnet were next. Many TRAs post utterly vile stuff, screenshot it and post it on twitter to prove how horrible FWR is. This has been going on for years now.

So to suggest that nobody was censored is not only incorrect but gaslighting and a major insult to all the women who were screaming silently into the void for years. The board separation is just part of the bigger picture.

BardsAreAssholes · 18/06/2024 11:11

@TooBigForMyBoots - Alison’s right.

There were a whole set of specific to FWR rules and breaking them three times got you banned. Not using a variety of acronyms, the paraphilia that dare not speak its name, discussing the real safeguarding issues that TWAW raises…

There were deletions and banning an aplenty to the point it was almost impossible to discuss some issues. (From an TRA perspective this was a feature not an flaw)

Important and knowledgeable contributors to discussions were permanently banned - LangCleg being a notable instance.

The way FWR was treated was completely different to the rest of Mumsnet. I understand the pressures Mumsnet HQ were under (as much as anyone not subjected to it can) and it’s to their credit they stood by FWR as pressure to shut it down piled on. But the concessions made to TRA were heavy.

RufustheFactualReindeer · 18/06/2024 22:19

Yep

RufustheFactualReindeer · 18/06/2024 22:20

RufustheFactualReindeer · 18/06/2024 22:19

Waitwhat23 · 18/06/2024 22:53

RufustheFactualReindeer · 18/06/2024 22:19

Yep

deletions for yawn and bless and the biscuit emoji

I got a deletion for using the word peak.

ArabellaScott · 18/06/2024 22:55

Ooh, yes, that's right. We weren't allowed to say 'peak'.

I seem to remember all mountaineering references were deleted at one point.

ArabellaScott · 18/06/2024 22:55

'Castrate' was also verboten.

ArabellaScott · 18/06/2024 22:56

As was 'cult'.

ArabellaScott · 18/06/2024 22:56

We weren't allowed to generalise. Or be too specific.

RufustheFactualReindeer · 18/06/2024 22:57

Nope you all dreamt it

Happy days arabella happy days

RufustheFactualReindeer · 18/06/2024 22:58

I say that but basically i stopped posting 😀

Waitwhat23 · 18/06/2024 23:03

Remember the thread that was taken down because we talked about cheese too much?

ArabellaScott · 18/06/2024 23:07

I think that was the rationing.era of the Great Mumsnet Cheese Wars.

TicklishLemur · 18/06/2024 23:10

Jesus I thought things were bad now having felt the effects of malicious reporting myself!

Brefugee · 18/06/2024 23:15

my reaction is to say: sod it. There is no reason for the "two topics" to be separate. The two are intertwined. If people can't have grown up discussions about real topics that affect women then there is zero hope of anything being resolved IRL.

If anyone's eyes are too delicate to have even a whiff of "trans" stuff on Feminism: chat then perhaps this isn't the board you're looking for?

TicklishLemur · 18/06/2024 23:17

Only allowed back on the basis I never again engaged with the OP of a thread who had consistently replied thoughtfully to me, or make reference to her or any of her posts elsewhere. Not at the behest of OP, but some self appointed guardians of her’s. They must have completely failed to understand her posts to come away with the idea that she supports such censorship. Yet here we are… But yes of course there is no censorship on mumsnet 😂

Brefugee · 18/06/2024 23:20

IrnBruLolly · 10/06/2024 00:11

That's a fair point but you can almost always tell they're not a real woman when you see the article. In terms of stats it's kind of annoying but what are stats really good for anyway other than arguing about which sex is most violent - which will always still be men statistically.

what are stats good for? FFS. Allocating resources for things like rape shelters, prisons and prison staffing etc etc.
