Wow.. that is disgusting.

pickledandpuzzled · 21/11/2023 21:19

Isn’t it?!

Interesting follow on information as well. The age groups, the likelihood of offending and seeking help.

Really shocking.

Not surprised or shocked at all. Because those of us who have in the past, or currently work in women’s organisation know the prevalence of male sexual violence against women and girls, and also boys.

Many more men, than women tend to realise, are dangerous to us.

There are men who are decent and safe (i live with one) but at one point in my life despaired that i would ever find a mate i could trust. Am heterosexual.

I wish I could say I was shocked. But I've ceased to be surprised at the absolute depravity of some men!

OneMorePlant · 22/11/2023 15:32

Yea I'm not shocked either. Most men are pornsick now. Their brains and morals are just mush.

CatonmyKeyboard · 22/11/2023 15:34

'If no one found out '?

But the child concerned will know. So that says that these men don't think of their (potential) victims as 'someone'.

I'm not sure where I'm going with that.

pickledandpuzzled · 22/11/2023 15:55

It’s true though, @CatonmyKeyboard , ad perhaps at the heart of the issue. The object of their sexual desires is just that- an object.

Maybe that’s where we could get some traction, working out how to direct men’s desire away from objectification toward something relational. Not that it’s our responsibility but I’d be interested in research on it.

I wonder about the age correlation. It raises anxiety that those coming to this orientation early are extremely dangerous. I doubt it’s generational- this generation don’t seem less sex addled than previous ones.

Tbf though, women are still by far the main abusers of children, especially the mother, so I'm not sure we can shout too loudly about a study claiming what men 'would' do. Just saying.

110APiccadilly · 29/11/2023 09:13

I'd like to know more about how they recruited before panicking. One issue in many studies is that people who are willing to talk about sex are not generally representative of the population.

I also think that asking about under 18s in a country where age of consent is 16 is poor survey design. How many of those respondents who said they'd had sexual contact in the past were talking about themselves at 18 and a 17 year old girlfriend? We don't know.

I'm not saying there's nothing to see there.
