I was reading this lovely article of two women sharing a life together and made me wonder if in future there will be more women who, in different forms, will choose to opt-out men and live together.

Now, of course the comments in said acticle where just plain nasty, people can seem to handle women not serving men, so have to get mad.
But I thought it was a nice thing and can totally see the difference between partnership and roommates.

'I just feel safe': Platonic partnerships becoming more common. It works for these FL women

Platonic partnerships are becoming common, part of a nationwide trend. More and more American adults are not living with a romantic partner.

I'm afraid I'm as cynical as many of the comments.

  1. Many women already live apart from men, they're called single women, and own houses, flats, apartments, etc. and it's nothing new.
  2. Many women already live with friends, flatmates, housemates, roommates, etc. and it's nothing new.
So what's the difference between partnerships and roommates? Are they committed for life rather than a temporary arrangement? I imagine they are exactly as likely to survive as romantic relationships long term, based on the fallings out I have seen between housemates. They are still pretty young. Who knows how they will think in 5, 10 or 20 years time.

Yes, I saw this as committed to share and build a life together.
Sounded like a beautiful thing to me, and they seemed happy.

Of course you never know with any type of relationships, but would people say to married (or whatever) couple that let’s see how you think is 5,10,20 years from now.

Anyway, anything that breaks patriarchal ways of living is always a bonus!
