Anybody just see Emily on breakfast tv? She was very clear and articulate about her personal experience of unsolicited dick pics, masturbation videos and rape threats.
I probably won’t watch her documentary but she is raising excellent points.

Why won't you watch her documentary?

I find it infuriating and yet it's the most common form of misogyny - the misinterpretation by men that the way a woman dresses, looks or acts is any kind of invitation for non consensual acts or contact.

Pearfacebanana · 30/01/2023 22:32

Yes I saw her this morning and will watch the documentary.

dapsnotplimsolls · 31/01/2023 21:16

I've just tuned into the documentary. It was really disturbing that the guys were laughing at the messages she had been sent. FFS.

Pearfacebanana · 31/01/2023 21:32

The school girls interview is disturbing. The messages are from middle aged men? Why aren't they being tracked down as predators?

Felix125 · 01/02/2023 09:07

They do, but its very difficult to track these predators down.

louise5754 · 01/02/2023 10:42

There was a show about this recently. Where a man followed the journalist into her hotel room. She confronted the men who sent her photos.

JohnPrescottsPyjamas · 03/02/2023 10:36

“While the actress is keen to track down the offenders, many of whom conceal their true identities, she remains cautious about the prospect of destroying someone's family.

She said: 'I'm terrified of exposing someone and ruining their life... I feel like I'm on a crusade with it now, I won't change the way I dress or delete my accounts.“

Why is she worried about exposing these pervs and ‘ruining their life’? They’re the ones risking their marriages and families with their completely inappropriate behaviour. It’s the perpetrators responsibility to protect their loved ones, not Emily.

I fully support her in refusing to change the way she dresses but can’t she change her settings on her accounts? I used to regularly get scammers disguised as widowed American officers holding kittens and puppies who wanted a ‘meaningful relationship’ with me. Since I set everything to private, I’m in control and the nonsense stopped, or is her career based on an open public media platform?

This isn’t victim shaming, it’s just about taking back control and and not allowing these people to get off on their pathetic messages, but I can’t help feeling there’s more complex going on here.

She could, but why should she have to?
If you're a public figure /celebrity you do need some degree of exposure to self promote on social media channels for example.
Arsehole trolls and perverts are the ones at fault for sending abuse and unwanted attention/harassment, there needs to be harsher consequences for those participating

@JohnPrescottsPyjamas i was thinking the same thing. Many female celebrities are successful and are either private on Social Media or use it less often.

So...she should change her behaviour to try and stop the trolls and perves?
Fuck that.

JimnJoyce · 18/02/2023 11:27

@RedAndBlueStripedGolfingUmbrella couldnt agree more.
im just watching the doc. now.

ArmaY · 18/02/2023 21:53

Why won’t you watch her documentary I wonder?

I feel she could change her settings. Dreadful what she was going through.

Yes and it still doesn't stop the abuse.

Claire Foy isn't on social media and she has an extremely persistent psychopath of a stalker. Men are the problem, not the victim's security settings
