Rebel Wilson Surrogacy

I'm getting repeatedly alarmed by the growing number of celebs who think it's acceptable to rent a womb.

This is becoming the norm and I've really had enough.

If you don't want to take the risk with your body don't take the risk with someone else's.

There's a lot of push back on twitter. People are waking up to this and calling it out.

Also I'm interested in her wording "Beyond proud to announce the birth of my first child". Does that mean she used her own eggs? She's in a lesbian relationship isn't she? So her partner doesn't have any part in this arrival of a baby?

I've got a friend who was adopted. They've never truly known peace of mind, as they've spent their adult years trying to trace their birth mother and want to know why she gave them up. They've not held down a successful relationship themselves and frankly haven't been a great parent either because they're so scarred by it all. In their own words, it's a "epic headfuck" to be given away at birth. And they had decent parents, but it never filled the empty space.

These children born to surrogates face a lifetime of knowing that they were given birth to in exchange for money. Is anyone thinking of what that is going to do to their heads? Look at the children in the Kardashian family - raised by revolving door nannies and used for photo props on Instagram. Jeez are they going to need therapy...

I agree, I don't think surrogacy should ever be a lifestyle choice.

Though of we don't know what lies behind this reproductive choice, and if there were compelling medical reasons (something the people directly concerned may want to keep private). So it's all too easy to assume convenience. And if it is that, I think it's very wrong

It's wrong no matter the excuse used.

Rebel Wilson bought a human being.
Had one grown to order like a thing.

Human trafficking is never an acceptable choice.

Never thought of it this way. My mind has changed and I agree, it's awful.

There's a much longer thread about this in the same MN section by the way.
