Its a protest organised by pregnant then screwed about the high cost of childcare in the UK.
Lots of different locations.
Anyone going? My closest is Birmingham and was considering it.

Thanks OP. I'm not sure I can get to any, but now it's on my radar.

CucumberCool · 19/10/2022 19:18

Yes I'm going to my local one. Quite looking forward to it! 😎

Taswama · 19/10/2022 20:52

Not Brum I take it @CucumberCool ?

Yeah me and two of my friends will be in Trafalgar Square

mommyisbest · 21/10/2022 22:11

Hopefully alongside others!

Graphista · 25/10/2022 13:22

Was hoping to go to my local one but don't think I'll manage it now but will support in other ways.

Surprised there's only a short somewhat hidden thread on this on here? Are there others?

PronounsBaby · 25/10/2022 14:50

@Taswama no not Brum!

I am also surprised not to see more talking of this @Graphista
I don't know if there are other posts

I looked through 3 pages of feminism chat to see if there was another thread. Seems like a really important issue to me.

Giving this a bump, as the date approaches

PronounsBaby · 27/10/2022 11:03

Yes I assume if the more comments the more visible it will be?

Taswama · 28/10/2022 17:13

Thank you both. I’m not going now as I don’t know anyone locally to go with and I think I will probably come away angrier than I already am but without anyone to share my anger / frustration with.

OP posts:
Juicylychee · 30/10/2022 12:50

Did anyone go?

PronounsBaby · 30/10/2022 14:37

I didn't make it! But a good turn out locally to me, over 1000!

Agreed. I'm new here. Would you mind me asking if you found any discussion on cost of outsourcing childcare, motherhood penalty, extended paid maternity leave etc on here? I'll have a search myself and see what I can find but any help would be very much appreciated.

Thelnebriati · 01/11/2022 15:11

There were some discussions from about 2 years ago (might be more). Its been tricky here since the board was split by Mumsnet a couple of years ago, apparently at the request of users of this board; and its pretty been quiet here ever since.
It would be worth starting new discussions imo. The recent changes in govt might have an impact on taxes, childcare and costs.

Juicylychee · 02/11/2022 10:35

I am surprised there hasn’t been more discussion.

JessSi · 04/11/2022 16:51

I've had a little look around and this S&G part of mumsnet seems to have a lot more traffic than childcare. Now how to start a thread..

Taswama · 05/11/2022 17:56

Just go to the section and look for ‘start new thread’ button. If you @ me and others on this thread we can join in.
My kids are actually both at secondary now so it’s much less of an issue but they have special needs which really restricted our options when they were younger.

@Taswama
@VestofAbsurdity
@Juicylychee

I started a thread over in S&G - domestic zombies, motherhood penalty, childcare if you're interested...

VestofAbsurdity · 06/11/2022 13:54

Thanks @JessSi I'll take a look.
