Lee Anderson said bearers of Queen's coffin deserved "a few random females"

I can't believe (well, perhaps I can) what I've just heard on the news- Lee Anderson MP for Ashfield ( I think?) was giving his opinion on the bearers of the Queen's coffin, and said "they deserve a few pints, a pat on the back, a few random females", or words to that effect. I couldn't believe what I heard, I rewound the bulletin to listen again, and yep, old Lee seems to think women are a commodity, for the pleasure of weary soldiers 🤬🤬🤬 Did anyone else see this? It was on ITV lunchtime news. I've searched for a clip or report online but couldn't find anything.

Was he commenting live for this nastiness to get broadcast ?

I'm not sure. It was a clip of him talking about the coffin bearers, as one of them is from his constituency I think.

Presumably he intends to just grab a few on the street and hand over the orders: over there, knickers off, line up, I've decided those men should have a shag as a reward.

Just.. words fail. They really don't think we're human or sentient at all, do they?

PolkaDotMankini · 20/09/2022 15:55

Yuck. That's utterly revolting.

He certainly doesn't; it's disgusting, and baffling that anyone can actually vote for this moron. I can't understand people who don't see this sort of stuff as derogatory towards women, and how it perpetuates sexism. We seem to be going backwards. It's the sort of remark you would hear in the 70's.

I wonder if people just don't know. I'd never heard of him before seeing this thread. A lot of people aren't that politically engaged and will just vote for the name by 'their' party. Maybe I'm being optimistic though... Probably a lot would still vote if they did know. And shit for the Tories to put him up.

Bleurgh

Oh people definitely know. I live in the neighbouring constituency and a lot of people think he's 'salt of the earth' and just says what others are thinking. Unfortunately that's not far from the truth, plenty of people like this sort of 'banter' and see nothing wrong with it.

@Mrsjayy he is indeed the one who said people relying on food banks should budget better - apparently 35p per person per meal is perfectly doable. The Tories don't care, they welcomed him with open arms after his suspension from Labour.

My ex was from Ashfield and without doubt one of the most deranged and odious individuals that I've ever had the displeasure to encounter (let alone have a five year relationship with). I don't think that his being from that town and his being mad are a coincidence tbh. Maybe there is something in the water sending them all bonkers? Lead? Just seen on Wikipedia that he went to the same school as my ex too, so maybe it's something they're teaching them there.

In all seriousness Lee Anderson is an absolute carbuncle on the face of humanity and, sadly, his expressing this kind of opinion doesn't surprise me. He's previously expressed anti- Semitic views and also accused the National Trust (of all people) of 'cultural Marxist dogma', which is a well known far-right dogwhistle. He also defected from Labour, and I always think that crossing the floor between two such different political parties with such different ideologies proves opportunism and general bad character. The TL:DR is basically that the The man is an utter prick.

Happily though he was only elected with a small majority of the vote in 2019 and since its inception in the mid-1950s that seat has only ever been Labour (apart from one brief two-year stint following a by-election at the height of the Winter of Discontent/general dissatisfaction with Callaghans government/Thatcher being on the up and up). Hopefully this section of the Red Wall comes to its senses and ousts him at the next election so that he can go back to volunteering for the Citizens Advice Bureau and making ignorant comments about the traveler community.

I clicked this thread thinking it was going to be about someone suggesting the coffin bearers should have been a male/female mix.

I agree what he said is a little inappropriate, it's not something you would expect a public figure to say in 2022.

MrsMontyD · 21/09/2022 14:08

He's a vile creature.

Mrsjayy · 21/09/2022 14:23

@EnglishGirlApproximately what a cretin he is.

It's very inappropriate, and it's not what you'd expect anyone to think let alone say.

I also thought it was going to be someone suggesting there should have been female pall bearers.
I recognised the name from the comments he made about food banks/cooking meals for 30p etc.
Its disrespectful on every level - to women and to the Pallbearers themselves that he judges them by his own (obviously incredibly low) standards.
