I heard this and yes it was riveting. I felt sorry for both him and all those male prostitutes he used. Thank goodness the homosexuality laws were changed. Let’s hope we don’t go backwards on that.

Yes I heard it too, fascinating. It made me think about the ethics around prostitution. He was in a situation where any sexual activity was illegal, and a normal sexual relationship impossible. At the same time the power imbalance between client and male prostitute was much less unequal, as he describes being blackmailed and (if I remember rightly) beaten up by a prostitute.
I'd like to think we could never go back to those days. I don't see any signs of that happening, but we can see how easily women's rights can be taken away.
