The law is failing women and children

Three year wait for a 13 year old rape victim to go to trial . To add even more hurt the accused remains in their village and even working in the local shop just feet from their home. How her family can continue to show restraint I do not know.

I read this earlier. How long can this go one for? It just sounded like excuses and buck passing for the latest wait.
Disgusting. Poor girl, this has defined her childhood and she can't even begin at 16 to start recovery because the verdict is still hanging over her.
She has the crushing verdict still in front of her too, when he gets some pathetic tokenistic punishment that wont reflect the crime.
The justice system is failing yes.

My family is in a similar position. The "Law" isn't fit for purpose when it comes to male violence against women and girls.

I'm so sorry to hear that @TooBigForMyBoots . I feel for you and everyone else stuck in this system.

Clearly women and children's safety is not a priority. It sickens me when politicians spout off bragging about initiatives to make our streets safer and give advice to women on how to travel safely.

Sounds like they're massively dragging the case out, but ultimately I'd imagine they're working on the basis of innocent until proven guilty.

Not only the wait…. If the victim has counselling, then notes from the counselling sessions could be demanded by the defence. This means many victims don’t have the support they need at the time they need it, and recovery becomes much harder 😢😡

It is incomprehensible. A violent sexual assault on a child where you would think should be of the upmost priority. The affect on the victim and the family of this delay is too much to think about. There's also the danger of a potential rapist free all this time.
