When to propose

Hi everyone,

I'm planning to propose to my girlfriend on our summer holidays next month. Been together 10 years.

My question is, should I pop the question after checking in at the hotel, or wait until the next morning we get there ?

Thanks in advance.

Well, I'd wait until after you'd apologised and attempted to make reparation for perpetuating repressive heteronormative patriarchal institutions, personally.

A few Hail Andrea Dworkins after breakfast should do it, then abase yourself at your girlfriend's feet and swear to serve her inner goddess energy for all your life. Donation to Women's Aid and you're sorted.

Good luck!

Dear god, @PrimAndProperViperish I hope your post is satirical.

OP, I would wait a little, I'm sure you will know the right time. But definitely do it somewhere private and not over a meal in front of lots of other holiday makers. Does the hotel do a special private dinner?

BeenHereAWhileNow · 13/08/2022 21:51

The start of a holiday is a terrible time, what if she says no Shock

RedLemonade · 13/08/2022 21:54

@PrimAndProperViperish basically nailed it OP.

Yea wait until your settled and as another poster. I don't know where your going but if it's a beach destination maybe in the evening walking across a beach for a nice stroll when it's not busy. I wish you all the best! Let us know how it goes :-)

I think that you should wait until you've asked for her father's permission.

Ehhh no I don't agree, we aren't living in the middle age nor the 20's anymore. Women are as equal as men, so why would I ever think about doing this ? And anyway, if I was one of those men, she'll cringe so hard that she'll kick me out 😝

Not asked her father's permission?. She'd get angry? Sounds like you're hooked up to one of these mad strident feminists.
Ditch her now before she gets mad ideas about equal pay and not putting your slippers out.

PrimAndProperViperish · 15/08/2022 10:52

Has she ever expressed any opinions on politics, OP? If so, back away fast.

Pure MN. Love it 😂

MrsU2022 · 15/08/2022 11:03

Aww what I'd have been pretty disappointed if my husband hadn't asked my dad's permission!

I'd wait and do it before dinner and suggest an evening stroll on the beach or somewhere romantic...

Good luck!

Maireas · 15/08/2022 11:19

What if your father had said no? That he had promised you to the blacksmith, a fine, hardworking young man?
Would your fiancé have fought for your hand in marriage? Perhaps a duel?

PrimAndProperViperish · 15/08/2022 11:50

I do miss a good duel. You don't get many these days. It's all 'Health and Safety' and 'Non-Crime Hate Incidents' and you have to sanitise the gloves before you throw them.

Naturally, I blame the uppity women.

Maireas · 15/08/2022 12:06

Tell me about it. Health and safety gone mad.
