For 20 years I’ve been a member of an outdoor swimming club. They have just announced that the male and female changing rooms are becoming mixed sex . Any legal pointers re how to challenge this would be great

I would ask for this thread to me moved to the sex and gender forum as there are loads of women on there who can advise.

How are the changing rooms arranged e.g. are there floor to ceiling changing rooms, what is the set up for showers, are there toilets? If so are these floor to ceiling individual rooms with a wash basin.

The way to challenge is Health and Safety Executive requirements for toilets, and EA 2010 right to single sex spaces.

Ask to see their impact assessment, or risk assessment.

Don’t think it needs moving as this issue will affect loads of women and our daughters. Yes ask to see the risk assessment, impact assessment. What are the reasons they are being changed? There are figures to show that girls and women are more at risk in mixed sex facilities. They can keep them single sex as a proportionate response to girls and womens needs for privacy dignity etc. what about women who can’t access mixed sex facilities?

Single sex changing rooms are legal. Technically, they may not have a legal duty to provide them, but if they don't they will be discriminating against women who cannot or don't want to use them.
