Feminism: chat
What made you look into feminism for support and answers?

I have to reflect a lot on some of the things I've read and learned over time.
I probably started out as an idealistic child and then felt various levels of disappointment over time.
I don't want to go into every detail as it's a lot and it's heavy, but I think my interest in feminism comes from a point of view of wanting to feel SAFE.
This is such an issue for me as a woman. Never feeling safe.

Being life long single by choice and childfree woman.
I’ve been put an a bottom of the pole because of it and i’t makes me so angry.
I am not less of a woman, just because I’m not attached to a man or brought babies into this world.
But sadly, feminism hasn’t actually been much of help either, lot of feminist put wives/mothers on a pedastal too….

This makes sense and I have seen with single friends who haven't decided to have children - a weight of stigma and societal expectations.
There certainly is feminism that is very mother centred, which makes sense for those women who need that support, especially single mothers.
Feminism comes in many forms however and is a living growing construct made by women. So by talking about your concerns to sympathetic women you can start to change the focus to include you once other like minded women also speak in solidarity.

@Imicola
I agree. It's so regressive now to see what's happening especially with young girls.

I have been a feminist for as long as I can remember.
I was what would now be called a “woke” child - but in the 80s / 90s that simply meant I was a vegetarian who wore a peace sign necklace and argued that “girls can do anything boys can”.
As I’ve got older I am sickened, absolutely filled with rage about male violence towards women. Rape culture, domestic violence, coercive control. Young girls taking their clothes off online for disgusting men and it being labelled “empowering” - buying into the sex and trafficking trade.
I am so fucking angry that women are abused, raped, murdered by men and what are they doing to stop it? Fuck all. We can’t even rely on the police to keep us safe because they are as corrupt as anyone else. And yes yes it’s not all men - but it’s always a man. And I’m sick of it. It’s a male violence problem but it’s up to feminism to keep us protected. Because the men folk haven’t done anything to stop it.
