Has Keir Starmer backtracked?

Apologies if this has been posted.

“Sir Keir Starmer has said it is “plain common sense” that biology determines sex for the majority of women but that those who struggle with their gender identity should be respected”

Is this him back tracking due to the backlash?

Still a coward. If he can't be firm and honest about this , what else can't he be firm and honest about . Yes, I know Johnson and the Tories are unconscionable bastards.

If he hasnt, he soon will. Just like PM Johnson, who one week after the KS interview, refused to say that only women have a cervix when asked by GB News.

He seems to be attempting to sew together his wide open, brain fell out, cranium.

Sadly for Keir, his previous statements were either unequivocal and not open to misinterpretation or so full of blather as to have had minimal meaning other than to assuage TRAs.

We are women, Keir, not fucking goldfish - who also have perfectly good memories but are much maligned by strange ill informed tropes.

I think Janice Turner summed up Starmer's current position accurately in her excellent column in The Times this weekend when she says;

"Already the “if you don’t respect my sex you won’t get my X” local election campaign has made Labour leaders tone down their biology-denial, sensing they have lost women’s trust and thus can’t rely on their votes"

I really don’t think most male politicians know what a cervix is therefore get confused by the question.

for the majority of women

he hasn’t backtracked. Biology determines sex for everyone.

He’s trying to keep everyone sweet. Biology determines if you’re a woman but he can’t say that as he’s fully TWAW, but knows if he says that, labour hasn’t got a hope in hell of being elected

I actually think that’s worse - biology determines sex for all you boring old-fashioned women, so you can provide the validation craved by the special ones

They could have chosen one of the several very competent women to be the new leader of Labour but oh no. It HAD to be one with a penis so now he is the opposition "leader". Except he couldn't plan a picnic.

for the majority of women

This phrase shows he has not backtracked. He said before that women are adult human females and transwomen. He is still saying this.

I am sure KS is a clever man who knows that 'woman' is not a meaningful category if it includes adult human females and TW, who are not female - what is the commonality in these two groups of people which means they belong in the same category? KS is clever enough to realise there is no answer to that question which means both those groups belong in the same category of 'woman'. I am also sure KS is clever enough to realise the dangers and risks to women of saying men can be women. He just is too cowardly to face up the consequences of having to say all of this in public.

Sir Keir Starmer has pledged to change the law to allow trans people to self-declare their gender, The Telegraph can reveal.

The Labour leader has said he will “update” the Gender Recognition Act (GRA) if elected, despite warnings that doing so would impact women’s rights and could enable predatory men to access single-sex spaces.

Sir Keir’s commitment could mean legislation in the UK mirrors changes passed by the Scottish Parliament on Thursday, which allow people as young as 16 to change their legal gender by signing a declaration.

Front-page lead, too. This is fantastic coverage.

And despite warnings that doing so would impact women’s rights and could enable predatory men to access single-sex spaces. A newspaper couldn’t spell out the wrongness more clearly.

And the DailyMail’s front-page lead criticised ‘diversity and inclusion’-related jobs on much higher salaries than nurses. Diversity and inclusion would be great if it was about disabilities or ageism rather than including males in women’s single-sex spaces.

But a little bit of me dies inside when I look at The Guardian, which I used to love ….
