Men & IWD 🤦‍♀️

Every year I see these posts online from men complaining about IWD. I usually ignore and scroll on but this one guy on Facebook really pissed me off today. I regretted it as soon as I started and it’s annoyed me all day.

There was a really innocuous photo of some cuddly toys dressed in suffragette colours and a ‘Happy IWD’ to everyone on this group’ message on a local fb group I’m on.

Some guy waded in and kept arguing with women (including me) in the comments. I just can’t get over the ego of trying to mansplain IWD to women Angry.

I gave up arguing in the end, I’m never as articulate as I’d like to be…why do I do it to myself!?

Whenever a man says he'd happily be a woman in a western country I always think of that Quantum Leap episode where the male lead character accidentally leaps into the body of a woman in labour.

Sorry OP some men (lots of them actually) just don't know when to stop making it all about them and their vision of who women are and should be.

Pour yourself a large Gin and try to forget about the twerp. Other people may not have joined in but I guarantee a lot of people will have read it and eye rolled massively.

I don’t even really understand what he’s trying to say. He thinks all is fine and dandy for women in the Western world?

But he then goes on to say, essentially: ‘Look, you’re nothing special, men aren’t just shits to you, we do it to each other too!’ Erm, ok. This really is not a good argument for getting rid of IWD 😂

I think sometimes the best thing to do with these essay writing misogynists on Facebook is to reply to the women commenting, and ignore these men completely. Or if you really want to respond, post links to resources online summarising the continued inequality for women even in developed countries, without writing an essay yourself.

God, the willy waving is so tiresome isn't it? I wonder how many minutes thought he gives even to the lives of the women he let alone others.

Safe contraception and Abortion is still not available in much of the west. The fall out of me too grooming gangs have shown that womens accounts of their own lives still are not believed.

There are still needless maternal deaths, injuries and disabilities caused because women are not listened to and our pain is dismissed.

Don't get me started on how pregnancy and motherhood affect employment, you don't even need to be planning a family to be overlooked for opportunities.

That's all I can think of from the top of my head. I can see why men would be jealous of that 🤨
