Pop-Up ads in Feminism

I don’t know if this is a wind-up, but while reading the feminist boards I keep getting pop-up threads suggesting I buy a Roomba vaccum or some cleaning product. Really Mumsnet ? Are you taking the piss?

I think I’d prefer Roomba to this very phalic ad I got the other day on FWR!

Thank Christ it’s not just me. I posted about this on site stuff. Not much help at all. Apparently I just need to click on it and say I don’t want to see it anymore but the Giant Disembodied Cock keeps coming back. Totally unacceptable ad to have on this site. @MNHQ

I think the ads that just look like threads are so bloody annoying. I've been meaning to have a moan about them for ages. So you're knee-deep in some more bad news about what various organisations are doing to further erode women's rights, and you see the blue of a thread you haven't obviously clicked on before and think there's some fresh thread started but no, it's an advert masquerading as a 'fake' thread. And, you're right OP, it's usually for some 'domestic' product that we, as women, are obviously supposed to be drawn because, y'know, women are drawn to such things like moths to a flame. I personally have built up a fair amount of negativity towards Roomba because of it. There's another fake thread about a £4 product that will 'change your life' or words to that effect and it was for some mass-produced piece of cheap shit that I can't even remember.

You are talking about the 'fake thread' ads aren't you? I get full photo ads floating between the threads too (and completely slowing and spoiling my scrolling) and sometimes they link to something I've looked at before but sometimes randomly link to a product featuring a trans woman or drag queen. Coincidental? I'm not sure...

Haven't had that kebab-like c**k one though!

It's not just Feminism boards they're on - these fake thread ads are everywhere on MN and it's the way they can appear scattered throughout a board so they're not pinned to the top where you'd just skip them and go 'not looking at that it's just one of those ads'.

I've had this one too. It's revolting.

I saw the site issues thread.

MNHQ confirmed that this is not one of their ads, but rather one that gooogle (?) serves up to you based on your online habits.

There is some scope to block certain advertisers individually and IIRC are seeking to do so for this if it's possible.

Bizarre

I use Firefox for browsing and have the uBlock Origin add-on installed. Zero ads, is bliss. When I get a new pc or upgrade and it's not installed my eyes get a shock, just mad busy screens with stuff popping up everywhere!!
