Murder of female jogger Ashling Murphy in Ireland

A 23 year old woman was murdered in Ireland yesterday. Ashling Murphy was running along a canal towpath at around 4 p.m. when she was fatally attacked by a man in his 40s. Ashling was a primary school teacher and taught first class pupils (age 7/8). She was also a very talented musician. The suspect is being held for questioning and was known to gardaí (the Irish police force). Vigils for Ashling will be taking place all over Ireland over the next few days. I am shocked and sad for her family, friends, colleagues, pupils and all who knew her. Such a devastating loss for them. But I am also very angry that women are risking their lives doing something as basic as a run utdoors in daylight. www.irishtimes.com/news/crime-and-law/garda%C3%AD-say-no-stone-will-be-left-unturned-in-ashling-murphy-investigation-1.4775034

Yes they should know that. They don't need to blame themselves. Maybe I'm being too optimistic but in 10 or 20 years things should be a bit better.

I don't buy the conversation thing.
It's all conversation now.
Giving out about people NAMALTing on Twitter is pointless
What are the proposals

I think they need to change reporting from violence against women to male violence. I have three daughters and I don’t want to scare them, I don’t want them to distrust men but I also want to protect them especially as two are autistic.

In the news today, a man logged onto the online Virgil and was masturbating. This is what women are up against. Even though there seems to be a bit more equality it feels like it has been given through gritted teeth and really sexism is still very much ingrained.

Misogyny and violence by men against women must be made an offence and any men must be named and shamed when they do it. Support the action in the House of Lords currently, against the Govt proposals re: Hate Crime . I'm sure there's already a thread here somewhere.
