Hi All,

I listened to the LBC interview with KS. I the interview she says she is not a radical feminist (when explaining the term TERF). I'm just wondering, is 'radical' feminist the todays' version of 'feminist' 15 years ago? I remember when I was in my early 20s and I would say I was feminist, which I found I had to do very often to declare myself when people started saying stupid sexist things! - people would slightly recoil. Is that what 'radical' feminism is now?

I can't really see what feminism is without radicalism, unless you are saying you want oppression of women to end, but you want it to end within a sexist system and you are happy to just inch along for centuries, as you really don't want to upset any apple carts?!

I'm just confused. Caught some feelings when she said that to be honest - why reject us radicals, Kath???!!!

No probs OP.

And I used to avoid a whole load of stuff that I was not about to listen to/ read etc.

This whole situation has really made me realise something.

  1. I know plenty of people who read mail, and they aren't all massive right wing bastards. My FIL for example is a total softie and wouldn't hurt a fly. Leads onto next point
  1. Half population voted leave. Mail top selling. Tory govt years. Millions upon millions of people aren't just totally horrible. WHY do so many people have these views? They very clearly aren't all gullible, stupid and happy to see people suffer. Understanding what they see in this, why do they feel the way they do, is there something in some of it which is understandable to be concerned about given their situation etc? To fight enemy you need to understand them. Otherwise you will lose and lose and lose.
  1. The final thing I learnt was that, while I sort of knew, half realised that women girls are not actually important to any of the (built by men for men) political 'sides'.
It's been demonstrated in vivid technicolour just how unimportant we all are. This has been a massive lesson for lefty women. Because left = tolerant, kind, equality, etc... Nope. A massive hard lesson to learn.

DM has been the only mainstream media outlet with a high amount of readers.

That has consistently had the balls to say eg this woman who raped these women has balls.

Unless it's not true, and why would it be? And they'd get shit if it wasn't true.

Then obviously women concerned about self id, press reporting rules, stats, women's prisons etc are going to be interested. What good would it do to say. DM. On principle won't look. And anyone who shares it is right wing nasty so they should be ignored and maybe told off as well... That's not going to help anything is it!

What does "supping with the devil" mean? Yes, it's hyperbole, but the focus of the proverb is on the long spoon. I have distrusted the daily mail for over half a century. It is the most proficient paper at manipulating people's prejudices, and despite the occasional show of decency (it was good on Stephen Lawrence, for example, as well as its current reporting on sex and gender issues) it's still doing it. I will keep my distance.

And the reason that the Daily Mail gets linked to quite often on the 'sex and gender' board is that most other news outlets simply won't run a news story if runs counter to current trans orthodoxy or presents a trans person in a bad light.

Also, no paywall, so the info is easily available. All credit for that, but I'm still not going to trust them. I'll happily read linked DM articles, and I am not criticising people for linking to them. But I'll need confirmation elsewhere before I'll believe the truth of their reporting.

Look, "sup with the devil" is an old English proverb. It was a throwaway remark, but I stand by it.
