The headline is over egging it a bit - article is much more tentative

Clinton is certainly making the calls to ensure that at-risk women are properly prioritised. But the idea that there will be an additional plane (when the number of available airframes is not the limiting factor) seems fanciful.

Has Kamala Harris said anything about the situation for women in Afghanistan?

It seems they change the title too, since I posted this. I imagine arranging flights as a private citizen would be a long shot at best. Many women and girls cannot even get near the airport.

All this charter flights stuff is very strange.

Who is piloting? What about insurance? Who owns the planes?

The biggest capacity is the army type ones with the inside stripped out etc.

Surely the countries should/would work together to get the most people out as poss with the resources they have.

But that's 3 instances I've heard of people apparently trying to send non military aircraft in.

It's really fucking weird. Doesn't make sense.

Anyway. Biden has fucked this up so much he couldn't have done worse if he'd tried. And he continues to say fucking stupid things. All of this is on him.

No she isn't arranging charter flights it looks like she's made a few calls asking for women and children to get a higher priority. More than Harris has done publicly to our knowledge so far but arranging private charter flights out of a besieged airport is not really possible.

A very clever friend of mine involved in relief work has posted a fb message pointing out to all and sundry that now is not the time to be sharing intel on social media about what they have been told (from the horses mouth) is happening / about to happen. It risks lives. I can only imagine that the news must be vague for similar reasons.

If you have been watching Flight Radar over the last week you'd have seen quite a few charter planes (737s mainly) flying in and out of Kabul. PIA have also been flying in and out.

There is a flight operated by Egypt Air flying in now.

Let's not forget the men who started this mess. Those to blame are Trump, Biden and the Taliban. They ought be prioritizing women and their children, because they put them in danger in the first place.
