In the Olympic Women’s BMX finals. Charlotte Worthington tried an incredible mid-air back-flip that no woman had ever attempted in a competition before. It looked terrifying as she plunged headlong towards the ground. She did the trick but landed badly and came off her bike. I think I would have given up at that point. Charlotte got back on her bike, tried the same trick again and emded up winning gold.

What an inspiration to women and girls. Not so much the gold medal as the courage to get up and try again. My best Olympic moment.

I can’t stop watching that move. It seems to defy physics. The bike is heading in the opposite direction and she flips it forward. Mind blowing and took huge guts to attempt it again on her second run, not once but twice. Brilliant.

@AlohaMolly Definitely - it's very sad in so many ways that it won't have been anything like the experience the competitors probably imagined when they won a place to go - I think if the crowds at tennis and boxing matches who are so close to the action. Sad for all the organisers who must have poured over every detail on the basis that there would be thousands of visitors. At the every least I thought they might have broadcast some crowd sounds to try and create an atmosphere for the competitors - they've been doing that for premier league football.

Hannah Roberts and Charlotte Worthington are friends and had a drink together in the evening
