A man saying this to a woman.
Is there ANY situation where this is acceptable?

What’s made this a sex based issue? It’a really unpleasant thing for anyone to say to another person but I must be missing how it’s a male vs female thing.
MarkRuffaloCrumble · 18/07/2021 17:08

Yeah I wouldn’t say it’s an ok thing for anyone to say to anyone. Man or woman. Wouldn’t say it’s a feminist issue tbh, unless there’s more info here.

Whoever it is. I wouldn’t bother speaking to them anymore as they clearly don’t have a lot of respect. (Presuming that message was sent to you). Flowers

@purpledaisies

Domestic abuse is a women's rights issue.

Hth.

Op unless you're properly evil, No it's not ok. What's the situation? You might get better answers moving this to relationships

surreygirl1987 · 18/07/2021 17:28

It's a person issue. Anyone can suffer from domestic abuse. It's never okay.

PurpleDaisies · 18/07/2021 17:31

Domestic abuse is a women's rights issue.

I know that. I was taking the op at face value. Of course it isn’t right for a man to say that to a woman. It also wouldn’t be ok for a man to say that to another man, or for a woman to say it to a man or another woman.
I’m not seeing how this a specific question is a sex issue.

It was a good idea to signpost the op to relationship help if that’s why they’re posting. Women’s aid is great for helping women leave difficult situations.

Yes, but it’s overwhelming men who abuse women (or other men).

No it's an issue that overwhelmingly affects women and is overwhelmingly perpetrated by men. Hence it being a women's rights issue.

What is a woman's rights issue in your mind if not dv?

surreygirl1987 · 18/07/2021 17:38

Um by 'dv' do you mean domestic violence? Do you not think abuse is a different term to violence..? 🤦‍♀️

And actually many men suffer from emotional domestic abuse. And I stand by my point that it is never okay 👌

IveGotASongThatllGetOnYNerves · 18/07/2021 17:40

No, it's not ok to say that to someone.
If that's how you feel about them then you owe it to them to fuck off out of their life and let them focus on people who actually like them!

NiceGerbil · 18/07/2021 20:01

Context? That's very important!

Who are they?
Do they know each other?
Why has he said it- in response to what?

Women get way worse abuse all the time both in person and online it's ubiquitous.

If I say. Left the kids at home and went out on the piss all day while he was at work and didn't feed them etc and staggered home in the early hours then that would be s pretty reasonable thing to say for example.

So can't comment unless know what it's all about.

Not a great saying, no.

Not from a man to a woman.

Not from a woman to a man.

Not from an adult to a child.

Not from a child to an adult.

Not from a child to a child.

Not from an adult to adult.

Have I covered all the bases?

I don’t like it being said at all. Mostly because it’s used in a specific situation and never about the whole person.

It’s the laziest way to convey disappointment and/or frustration.

I’m not even certain what being “useless” is meant to mean. What a horrible way to describe another human being.

As to the idea of this being a feminist issue, I agree with others and would like more context.

NiceGerbil · 18/07/2021 21:13

OP what's the context?

How can anyone give a meaningful response when we don't know anything about the people or the context?
