www.tellerreport.com/sports/2021-07-14-gets-pressured-to-play-in-bikini-bottoms--%22embarrassing-and-hopeless%22.ryzJlxt26d.html

This appears to be an English language version of an article in the Swedish press. I first saw reference to this issue on Twitter, where the sport mentioned was beach volleyball. Maybe that's a translation issue. The photos attached are from the Twitter thread. twitter.com/amalieskram/status/1415765005350445060?s=20

It could hardly be clearer that this women's sport is organised to attract a huge audience from men who just want to ogle the players. Norwegian women's team wants to wear a sensible comfortable kit and get told they will be disqualified if they don't wear the tiny little bikini pants.

Meanwhile the men wear board shorts.

This appears to apply to the European Championships but presumably could be an issue at the Olympics too.

Why do women have to wear such skimpy revealing kit when men in the equivalent events don't? See also: gymnastics, track and field (OK, they don't have to wear skimpy kit there, but a great many choose to - why? men don't).

@JurgenKloppsCat

You cant expect people to watch woken running around pretending to be good at men stuff like sports unless they're dressed to impressed. O mean we don't watch it for the skill do we?

Cricketers? Basketball players? Golfers? Runners? Archers? Weightlifters? Shotputters? Rowers? Tennis players? Baseball? Shooting? Swimming? Do these upset you too?

Lots of those dont get nearly as much coverage though, its like advertisers think they have to dumb down womens (typo on previous post) sports to make them interesting rather than accepting people watch them because they care, jist like mens sports. Guarantee if women footballers played in skimpy clothes they'd get more coverage. Its ridiculous.

So you think women's beach handball is high profile? In which country? And now you have athlete Olivia Been who has been told at the British Championships last Sunday that her shorts were too brief and revealing. That seems in direct contradiction to your point. If we want to ogle women's bodies, why is she being told to cover up? (which I think is a load of bollocks as she's wearing official kit).

It smacks of idiocy and incompetence to me rather than a plot to perv.

Here is the email address for the IHF to complain to. Hopefully if they get enough, it may help them decide on the right thing to do?!

Please feel free to share this like crazy!

The other thread can't even get the right sport in the title!

Also, it seems to be an EHT ruling, as the tournament in question was held under their rules

It doesn't seem to be in either the IHT or Olympic rules.

Has anyone yet contacted IHT and had a reply? Early clarification on whether it's within Europe only.

German womens gymnastic team are wearing unitards - good on them. So many girls give up on sports shortly after puberty. Leotards are a real pain - go up the bumcrack, you worry about shaving etc, not allowed to even wear tights under them. I was always told that the judges had to see your all of leg in oredr to score but miraculously didn't on the boys who wore stirrup trousers when I did competition trampolining.

Weirdly, rhythmic gymnastics has allowed catsuits and unitards for years. DD was a rhythmic gymnast so I've seen how ridiculous (and expensive) the leotards get for that. I never thought that sparkly skirted leos and trowelled-on makeup added anything to they gymnasts' performance either.

Women gymnasts should have the option of stirrup pants or shorts over their leotards, like the men do. Gymwear manufacturers would get behind that too.

I've had a look at indoor handball photos and the women there manage to play in football-style shirts and shorts. It's also quite a physical game so you'd think abrasion resistance would be a priortity for kit.

Sorry, spelling in that is atrocious.

The singer Pink has offered to pay the fines given to the Norwegian women. I hope the publicity will make the Handball Federation think again. As has been said on other threads, what matters is what the women choose to wear.

Pink is amazing.

Could this "sport" be replaced with something else?

Any sport can be dropped from or adopted in to the Olympics

Would you be seeking the removal of all variants of handball?

Also, can anyone confirm if IHT rules permit a wider range of kit than EHT? From my reading, they do - but I'm an outsider and may have missed something important.

But if my reading is correct, I would expect the Olympics to use IHT rules. That means removing any/all forms of handball from the Olympics would be counter-productive, as it is the narrower EHT rules that are the issue
