Anyone recently started antidepressants and wants to chat/share progress and support

I have posted a few times on MN about recently starting Sertraline, asking for others experiences - just wondered if, like me, there were any new/recent starters who wanted to just chat and post on their progress, challenges and good bits too! I find it really helpful rather than just thinking about it alone. Would love to connect with others who are still adjusting on any anti-depressant x

Very similar situations! Are you on HRT, or have you had any hormone testing? I am going to try and feel less guilty for muddling through - I keep battling with the thought that I’m not being a good mum as we haven’t been doing the number of things we normally would but trying to focus on getting back to where I was. I hope that one day it just springs upon you and you suddenly feel more like you. Very comforting chatting like this knowing I am not battling these feelings alone - sounds silly but sometimes I feel like I’m the only one!

What hormone testing would the GP do @Sleepy21? I'm also in my 40s and wondering if my anxiety is caused by the peri-menopause. Then again, I'm going through the hardest time of my life so it's no wonder I'm anxious!

I managed to see my GP today. It seems that while the prozac is helping my depression, it is making my migraine preventative much less effective. So I need to change to another preventative. I've collected my script and am ready for the change. Not looking forward to the side effects of switching though.

Sorry to hear you suffer with migraine too baroque, hope you're feeling OK now.

I also went into a health shop to ask for something to help me sleep better and they recommended a magnesium drink before bed, so I am trying that.

Hope everyone is doing ok so far this week.

Hope that change of preventative isn't making you feel bad MidSept 💐 The magnesium drink sounds intriguing, have you tried it yet? Let us know how you're getting on.

I've pretty much had a permanent migraine since last weekend and it has sent me backwards a bit in the last few days. Then yesterday I discovered that the antibiotic I've been on has migraine as a side effect, so I'm cutting the dose in half from today and hoping it will be enough after 3 solid weeks of taking it twice a day. It was really starting to get to me because sleep (after taking large doses of pain relief) generally shifts the headache symptoms of my migraines, even if it doesn't help with the malaise. But for almost a week now I've been waking up with the headaches too and it has been grim.

Anyway, still on track with the daily dose of sertraline and having moments of feeling a bit better for it, so I'm keeping on with that. Have managed more work this week than last, despite the migraines, so I'm pleased about that and pretty sure the sertraline has played its part in making me more willing not to cancel clients and meetings.

I hope everyone has a good weekend, whatever you have or haven't got planned🎈

Glad to hear of your progress with work and the sertraline baroque. It sounds like really positive steps forward.

Oh I know the feeling, I have been waking every day with migraine too at 4 or 5 am and then unable to sleep again. Sorry to hear you have had the same.

I have the magnesium drink, will keep taking it. I also downloaded a sleep app too called insomnia coach which will hopefully help to build better sleep habits. I went to bed at 8pm last night because I was so exhausted!

I had a huge setback this week. I think I accidentally missed a dose, maybe two and had another massive breakdown. I’m getting there again now I’ve been making sure not to miss one again but it’s been rough.

DH has hit a rough point too, he’s at that lull you get a couple of weeks in before the meds start to work properly, he’s had the worst paranoia thinking I’ve been moaning about him and people at his work hate him etc. I’m glad he’s been able to talk to me about it though as before he would have hidden it from me. I think the therapy he’s been getting has really helped as well. So fingers crossed he gets through this bad point soon.
