Can you get your disgnosis deleted?

I have been totally stable for four years. I need to attend cmht every six months. I think I am fully recovered so is there a way to delete my previous disgnosis?

Do you mean delete it from your medical history? Why do you need to do that if it is a correct diagnosis even if you are stable now?

Octavia64 · 22/03/2025 20:10

No.

bumbas · 24/03/2025 10:05

I need to declare when buying a travel insurance. It makes it more expensive.

I can’t imagine for a minute you would be able to do this, unless you were wrongly diagnosed.

Cost of travel insurance is a ridiculous reason!

Daisyrainbows · 24/03/2025 10:39

Have never heard of this

DPotter · 24/03/2025 10:42

No you can't get a diagnosis deleted.

Insurance will ask for any periods of illness within a certain time frame. So it might ask if you have suffered from an illness within the last 5 years, and if you haven't had any episodes in 6 years you wouldn't have to declare.

There may be insurance companies who accept clients who have had a mental health diagnosis more favourably, I know there are for people with cancer for example. Maybe check out mental health charity websites for any recommendations.

Sadly any type of insurance will want to know about any ill health and then will adjust their costs accordingly. That's how insurance works

Unfortunately not - my medical history stated I had depression and anxiety - first I’d heard of it - do I ask for it to be removed - so they left a comment saying patient does not believe she had depression and anxiety and has asked for these to be removed. So once it’s written your stuck with it.

bumbas · 24/03/2025 13:31

Oh crap. I have schitzoaffective disorder but I have really been totally ok for four years. No symptoms whatsoever and I take my meds.

Sirzy · 24/03/2025 13:34

it’s great the meds keep you stable but that doesn’t mean you don’t still have the condition so of course it needs to be on your records.

otherwise it’s like saying “my blood pressure is controlled by tablets so I don’t have a problem with my blood pressure”

CallMeFlo · 24/03/2025 13:51

Your posts are contradicting. You said you think you no longer have the condition then you say you have no symptoms when you take your meds. A HUGE difference between those.

You can't say you no longer suffer from a condition when it's clearly being managed by your meds

bumbas · 24/03/2025 14:10

But it’s annoying. Dh pays £20 for in insurance and I have to pay £80.

OP posts:
Sirzy · 24/03/2025 14:12

That’s how insurance works. I have to pay over £250 for DS for a week away but that’s because he has medical conditions.

its a small price to pay to ensure suitable care if needed.

DPotter · 24/03/2025 14:25

You just have to see it as part of the holiday cost. Still worth checking out mental health charities to see if they recommend any insurers

WhatMe123 · 24/03/2025 14:27

No not for that op

Gettingbysomehow · 24/03/2025 14:28

No you can't. Sorry.

LoyalAquaOtter · 24/03/2025 14:29

If your condition was deleted from your medical history then surely you wouldn't be able to get your meds for it?

That’s just how it works. I have multiple autoimmune issues managed by 25 different medications, my insurance for a week in Spain is £250. If your condition is managed by medication it still exists!

Just because you've been stable for years doesn't mean that you no longer have this disorder.
You still do, it's just controlled

I don't know if this will help or not, but assuming you are going with specialist insurers for pre-existing conditions (which are usually cheaper than the mainstream standard insurers) if you go abroad more than once it is often cheaper to get a quote for annual insurance rather than single trip. For a single trip my quotes come in around 250 - 300, but annual insurance with what is actually a better package is £400.

I really don’t think a GP would delete a diagnose/part of the medical records

Unless of course it was proven to be incorrect

Even if you got the diagnosis removed - and that won't happen - then you would still have to answer the question honestly. It might cost you more upfront being honest - it will cost a hell of a lot more if you break a leg or lose all your luggage abroad and end up uninsured. The companies exchange information routinely - whatever you have declared previously will be on record somewhere and the will find it when you claim.

BobbyBiscuits · 24/03/2025 15:08

You can't erase from your medical records the fact you have been previously diagnosed with something. It doesn't mean you have to tell anyone, or that you can be discriminated against because of it. It's great that you feel you've overcome your illness. That's something to feel very proud of. The past is just that and it doesn't have to effect your future. I'm pleased you're feeling so much better x

Sadcafe · 24/03/2025 15:08

No you can’t have a diagnosis deleted from your records, certainly not for what would effectively be fraud. If you don’t tell your travel insurance company and anything happens that could in any way be linked to your illness , they won’t pay. It is an absolute pain where travel insurance is concerned but , expensive though it may be, it’s better to be truthful

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 24/03/2025 15:10

Try avanti. I have multiple health conditions and it's been fairly affordable. They do offer codes sometimes too.
They ask me if I've ever had to cancel a holiday due to the condition and I think make a judgement based on that.

No they still won’t delete it properly.
