2023/24 SAD thread | Mumsnet

Hi again, I’m back for another year ☹️. I can’t see that anyone has started a SAD thread yet but today seems to be the day that it’s really kicking in...

I've just realised there was no punctuation in my first sentence 😳

yes @Comedycook there were two forecasts saying a bit of sun at 9. Luckily I didn't believe them. There was also rain last night, that wasn't on any forecast. I end up looking at 3 forecasts sometimes! Sorry you're feeling the same 💐

If you go on FB marketplace there are lamps ranging from 5 - 30. Wish I'd done that before getting my latest one. My first one I got on Ebay for £10. Lasted ages.

Thank you! I don't know why I didn't think of that 🤦‍♀️

Imatorturedpoet · 10/11/2024 20:03

I've ordered a SAD lamp on Amazon for £27.99 🤞 can't go on like this, so hoping it helps.

worldwidetravel2017 · 10/11/2024 20:17

Some sunshine is due next week i believe

Went 4 a walk with my partner today
So grey though

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 11/11/2024 13:22

OMG, the sky is blue!

Also, I think I know why I’ve been so tired all weekend, I’ve been drinking decaf coffee since Friday 🙈😂.

😂decaf!! Noooooo!

Yes blue sky here too.... game changer!

lyingonthebeach · 11/11/2024 14:23

Blue sky here. Such a relief :)

LeaveALittleNote · 11/11/2024 14:54

This sun feels so good.

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 12/11/2024 12:15

It’s absolutely beautiful here today although cold. My windscreen was unexpectedly frozen this morning! I’ll take cold and sunny over warm and wet any day though!

Paddy McGuinness is cycling past my road this afternoon so I’ll nip out to watch him and pop some chance in the collection bucket (assuming collection buckets are still a thing!).

Lovely day this AM. Made sure to do the errands in the morning as its greyed over now!

lyingonthebeach · 12/11/2024 16:12

Same here. I sat near the window in a meeting and then kind of skived and went for a long walk to make the most of the BLUE SKY and🌞😁. It makes me a calmer, more communicative and more professional team member so......👊to anyone who says anything

lyingonthebeach · 14/11/2024 09:25

oh no! The sunny days were so good and such a help. Now back to the grey and I feel down and tired again ;( If I didn't have a meeting I'd go back to bed

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 15/11/2024 17:01

Yes, yesterday was soooo foggy and today it’s just drizzled all day 😭. I’ve got zero energy, everything aches and I’m hungry alllll the time. So annoying!

It's so dark and the rain is bucketing down. The SAD lamp is on, I've taken all my vitamins and feel like crying!

DropOfffArtiste · 19/11/2024 09:35

Today is really rough. Grey, damp miserable sleet so I don't want to run and WFH. Ugh.

worldwidetravel2017 · 19/11/2024 12:08

Beautiful snow here today

Looking 4ward to a gig at the weekend

Trying to keep my chin up

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 19/11/2024 19:39

I was so, so down this morning, like struggling to function. Tonight I’m feeling good though, no idea why!

Today was better than expected. I got out for a walk at lunchtime. Tomorrow I will go to the office as giving a big presentation.

I felt like that yesterday... honestly could barely move....felt so flat. Pleased you're feeling better now. I have felt a little better today.

There now one month to the winter solstice and then the days will very slowly start to get longer...once we're at that point, I start feeling a little better...so trying to remind myself i just have to get through the next four weeks then the worst is over from my perspective.

LeaveALittleNote · 19/11/2024 19:49

I was ok this morning, watching the snow fall gently as I worked from my desk with a hot water bottle.

I hated my dog walk today, though. Cold, grey, light sleet. Raynauds fingers. Dismal by 3pm. Horrible!

Imatorturedpoet · 19/11/2024 20:27

I'm so low at the moment and don't know how to help myself. I've no motivation at all, had to really push myself to do anything today. I ended up moving the furniture around which usually makes me feel better, but I still hate the way or looks, so didn't help much, but at least I got rid of a lot of dust and detangled all the cables.

I've been putting my SAD lamp on in the morning for twenty minutes.

I'm not sleeping until about 2.30 a.m, no matter what I do, I can't switch off and am also in pain with fibromyalgia. I'm meant to be going away this weekend for two days with DP to visit his son and I'm dreading having to put on a brave face all the time.

LeaveALittleNote · 20/11/2024 00:04

@Imatorturedpoet Sorry to hear that. I have had similar feelings and can only offer solidarity. Motivation is so tough at the moment, and most days are like wading through treacle; survival only, with very little enjoyment.

As a PP pointed out, we are in the depths of it now, but in just a matter of weeks the days will be getting longer.

How do you find January? I know a lot of people hate it, but I find it a relief, and the light starts changing and there are lots of birds around. It can feel like we’ve turned a corner.

I prefer January, as there's the feeling the winter is almost gone, the days get longer. November and December feel like deepest winter.

DropOfffArtiste · 20/11/2024 07:08

I'm also better in Jan when the days get slightly longer. When the clocks changed to December is the worst for me. I just need to get through it.

Comedycook · 20/11/2024 07:42

I think my eating habits aren't helping right now...I've been cooking nice healthy balanced meals for DH and the DC as always...but when it comes to me, I've been eating total crap. The other day I had no actual meals at all...I ate five bags of crisps, two mince pies and a brioche roll. My skin is breaking out in protest. I really need to get into a sensible routine of eating proper balanced meals.
